Let's be grateful that the Rightwingers don't have the numbers that BLM protestors had

It's a smaller mob, and one with less discipline. They tried to destroy democracy today.

Let all the quislings in the Republican Party take note. You've been playing with fire. There are people who love this behavior sitting in your caucus. Get your room in order, cause we all have to share this house. If they succeed in burning it, you'll burn too.

Side note to Vladimir Putin: Well played, sir. You've gotten your Pearl Harbor in.

By design or by political inertia, Trump and his Republican cohorts have been egging along this insurrection for a couple of years now. When the time came for them to blitz their putsch into the Capitol building, their moment to catch the political class unprotected, they hadn't planned to come armed.

That was incompetence, but not innocence. Next time they'll be ready to take it to the next step; they'll be armed. Alexander Hamilton helped George Washington deal with this sort of grassroots insurrection in the 1790s with the Whisky Rebellion. Hamilton's advice:

Whenever the government appears in arms, it ought to appear like a Hercules and inspire respect by the display of strength

The advice worked. The rebellion was put down and the followers among rebels shown patience and mercy after they submitted.

This needs to be put down. Lenience can go to the non-leaders of this violence later, after they've submitted. There movement spread in part because Congress is corrupt, but it's the only Congress we got. Clean it up later. Put the insurrection down first.
