The Capitol Police are used to checking people's IDs, calling them "sir" and "ma'am," and making sure they don't beep when they go through metal detectors. The riot squad of the Metro Police are used to tougher clients, and don't have a habit of going easy on people just because they are MAGATs. If there are hundreds of them out after a curfew right after they broke in to the U.S. Capitol, that wouldn't exactly encourage the Metro cops to go easy on them.

If I were an attorney representing either one, I'd highly recommend they turn themselves in quietly. If the Feds find them first, and they aren't EXTREMELY cooperative immediately, I wouldn't want to to be carrying their life insurance policies.

... Rent-A-Cops like you see on college campuses. They wear a badge and maybe even a gun, but they have zero training for handling actual law-breakers.

On the other hand, the Metro Police have trained Riot Squads with military weapons and protective gear. Big difference in attitude and abilities.
