When allied troops encountered the horrors of the Nazi death camps, they forced local civilians to carry out the bodies. They may have protested they weren't responsible for these atrocities, but it was too late. They were guilty by their presence.

Republicans are guilty by having enabled Trump to flourish and by refusing to stop him. They get to carry the bodies out.

I can't get too mad about what they're doing right now, because now is the time for them to do their part to lower the temperature. Democracy is on the line here, and it sends a strong message for Senators to stand united and show that the work of government continues.

But they won't get away with it -- because THEIR OWN BASE won't stand for it. The nutjobs will remember their elected representatives standing with democracy today instead of standing with Trump, and they'll make them pay for it down the road.

To which I say: too bad, because these Senators should have stood up to Trump long before it came to this.
