With all that's been going on during the last 24 hours, and with DU busier than ever, I almost forgot about the great news that Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff swept the Georgia Senate races.
Warnock and Ossoff battled hard to give us control of the Senate, and they did it against all odds. They did it with a lot of help from Stacey Abrams and all the black voters who came out in force to turn Georgia blue.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be President and Vice President of the United States. Warnock and Ossoff gave us control of all 3 branches. We can call it a mandate now.
Joe and Kamala will get to work immediately to get those vaccines out there and to finally get control of the pandemic that Trump the Terrorist ignored for a full year.
Joe and Kamala will do their absolute best to restore the honor and dignity to this country that it enjoyed under the leadership of Barack Obama and Joe himself.
Joe and Kamala are going to make all our lives better in the coming months, for one reason or another.
We really do have a lot to look forward to and a lot of celebrating to catch up on, especially after Trump is out of our lives, so stay safe. Better days ahead.

(53,410 posts)It definitely marks the end of the Trump era and the start of the Biden era. We successfully and Democratically won the Senate and the Trumpies tried and failed in their coup attempt to take the Capitol.
It was a good day for Democracy.

"It was a perfect storm of sorts...With a combination of overall higher turnout (despite the voter suppression attacks); most of Biden's votes being cast early or by mail; and not much more than just one third of the votes actually being cast on Election Day, maybe there just weren't enough blue in-person machine votes to flip."

I was cautiously optimistic about the Warnock race and a little nervous about Ossoff's -- that is, until that Georgia voting exec's press conference when he said that nearly three million of Georgia's 7.2 million voters had cast their ballots early!

It's not JUST that Democrats have won control of the Senate.
An African-American man and a Jewish man have won both of the senate seats in GEORGIA. Fucking GEORGIA.
This is a seismic shift in power.

(22,236 posts)we have in store for us. Everything about it is beyond amazing.
Joe Biden is a wonderful leader, and he is going to have a fantastic VP in Kamala Harris at his side. Warnock and Ossoff are incredible, changing the course of history for the better in one single marvelous state election. Georgia is blue. Unreal. Someone pinch me and tell me I'm not dreaming.
Seeing Joe, Raphael, and Jon standing so happy and triumphant in front of the American flag and the Georgia state flag with the blue VOTE sign in between the two flags sent shivers up and down my spine.
And yes, crickets, we sure didn't get a chance to savor their victories, but we will, and we will very soon. It's been a struggle, but we have so much to look forward to, starting now. That photo kind of says it all.
