Congressman: Science is Satanic

Evolution and the big bang theory are "lies to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a savior," Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) said in a recently released video.

In the video, taken from the 2012 Sportsman's Banquet at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell, Broun said that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old and the Bible is a guidebook to every aspect of life. He serves on the Congressional Science Committee. "God's word is true. I've come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution, embryology, the big bang theory; all of that is lies straight from the pit of hell," Broun said.

(this really pissed off my mircrobiologist hubby)

I'm at a loss to list everything that stems from a working knowledge of science because it covers just about everything in our daily lives.

The germ theory of disease, coupled with simple hand washing has led to much healthier people.

What's really disturbing is that he, and too many like him, sincerely believe there is a conflict between science and religion. There isn't. But he, and people like him, are doing their best to destroy science and scientific thinking, and simply have no clue the damage they will do.
