This is when politics gets really painful for me....

When any sort of decency, common sense, fairness go out the window. When an empty, horrendous candidate lies his ass off and the media eats it up because it makes it a horse race so that they can sell their ads to the eyeballs that tune in. When a truly decent man and president get ignored in the latest need to fawn on the liar to make it a horse race. When a party obviously and clearly root against Americans, dismissing good news as bad news for them, or something that must be a lie or a manipulation, as they sickeningly project their own rottenness on the Democrats.

I am not sure how I am going to get through the next month, the agony of the shifting polls, the concern that so many in this country are so easily manipulated, fooled, buy the lies, hide their racism and bigotry and instead wrap it up in a flag in a false claim of patriotism.

But get through it we all will.....it just seems like this is the most important election of my lifetime, anyway - that if the emperor with no clothes gets in, it will make so many things so much worse for many, many years to come.

It also reinforces what I must do when our vacation is over - spend the three weeks between our return and election day working for Obama's reelection.

Just some musings on a Saturday afternoon, after a quick run-through of the news....pre-sunset kayak on the Pamlico Sound.

for all those reasons. my freeway bumpersticker surveys are not as encouraging as i want them to be, and i can barely stand to listen to NPR or visit any corporate news websites.
oh, well, i'll do my bit to make this turn out the way we both know it SHOULD, and if it doesn't? i just don't know.

And I've heard that some companies plan to keep on some seasonal employees after the holidays in expectation of increased business. Hopefully that gets noted. They just can't bring themselves to acknowledge any economic improvement, albeit gradual, as an improvement.

In any event, hang in there. 4 weeks to go. I expect the Obama campaign to finish strong. And I'm pleased to see local focus on down ticket races. I'm doing a bit of canvassing work tomorrow - mainly a targeted GOTV effort for the Dem ticket. And, I think the three weeks after your vacation are a great time to pitch in. GOTV!

In the mean time, enjoy the pre-sunset kayaking!

but I'm trying not to catastrophize. It makes me very angry that we even need to be concerned with losing, but because of sleazy goings-on behind the scenes that can make a difference in the end, we have to. WHO gives them the tools to tamper with the election? Honestly, if it weren't for the repugs' machinations, I wouldn't be worrying at all.

A day at a time.
