It really seems like this was a planned attack on the Capitol Bldg. It seems like everything was set up to facilitate Trump's deplorable supporters in storming the Capitol Bldg and overwhelming the Capitol Police (some of these Capitol Police seemed to be aiding these rioters in getting into the Capitol Bldg. I heard some of these Police were seen to be taking selfies with the rioters).
This so-called protest was announced over social media. Trump forewarned us that something big was coming on Jan 6th. It looked like the Capitol Police force stood down. The National Guard and the DC Police weren't in position.
I've been to DC countless times and the Capitol Bldg is really secure and protected - but for some reason - it wasn't on Jan 6th 2021.
Prior to the siege - Trump spoke to his supporters and incited the crowd and actually encouraged them to march down to the Capitol Bldg. Rudy G. also made comments re: 'Let's have trial by combat,' he told Trump supporters hours before hundreds and shortly afterwards, hundreds of these Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building.
It actually looked like the doors were opened for these rioters to let them walk right into the building.
Now I'm of the opinion that Trump is not that smart to be able to make this happen all by himself or even think of a plan like this all by himself. And as an aside - it didn't look all that spontaneous. These rioters were prepared. Most of which had backpacks on and God know what they had inside those backpacks (i.e., guns, explosive devices, etc).
So the question is - who helped Trump in the planning of this siege of the Capitol Building? Who else was in on this? Rudy? Michael Flynn? the Proud Boys? Did Pence know this was coming? the RNC? Moscow Mitch?
I guess I'm just suspect that there is something even more sinister going on under the surface - under our noses.
Any thoughts on this? Who besides Trump was in on this? Or is Trump that smart that he could have directed and produced this whole thing by himself.

All he had to do was get them started, mob mentality and their own legend making would take care of the rest.

(68,632 posts)he wanted and what he was doing...and as for this not working, our Congress was shut down for hours and vandalized...if they had gotten some hostages, it might have worked. There was a plan we know this because they went almost immediately to where the electoral ballots were kept...I think he we may have underestimated criminal abilities...and we do that at our peril.

(42,770 posts)Yes!
1. Police acted differently than usual and film of them letting people in.
2. Remember, it was reported that trump and pence were seen in an animated argument? May have been about EC vote...but trump could have told pence he was sending people down.
3. Trump told the crowd HE would March to Cap with them..but immediately high tailed it to a limo.
4. Trump may have thought it'd be funny if they all went down there. Not expecting violence? Na
5. You don't need but a couple people to be in on this..to make it happen. Police chief and a couple cops.
6. Are you sure about doors? Didn't you see video of them ramming locked doors?

(23,456 posts)Including a combination of "patriot" fascists and police. He thought that there might be a much higher level of violence that would provide some more tangible (from his perspective) pretext for subversion of the constitutional order. Once he determined not to appoint Sydney Powell as a special counsel on the issue of "election fraud" and sort of drummed out Lin Wood, I think that the strongly pro-coup faction was on the outs. If he had been smarter about it and was truly committed to execute a coup, he would have had to have made different choices.
As for the fascists "on the street," they significantly overestimated their reach and force, in a way that sort of reminds of some in the past on the revolutionary left. You had a pro-fascist president being managed by various handlers who likely took the edges of his desired policies and moves, and a fascist movement that was uncoordinated and not really united. In the period ahead, the Trumpist coalition will likely splinter in more visible ways, with some departing electoral politics to go into illegal stuff entirely and some Tea Party types more or less staying what they've always been.

(2,895 posts)Some among America's military allies believe Trump deliberately attempted a coup and may have had help from federal law-enforcement officials
Multiple European security officials told Insider that President Donald Trump appeared to have tacit support among US federal agencies responsible for securing the Capitol complex in Wednesday's coup attempt.
Insider is reporting this information because it illustrates the serious repercussions of Wednesday's events: Even if they are mistaken, some among America's international military allies are now willing to give credence to the idea that Trump deliberately tried to violently overturn an election and had help from some federal law-enforcement agents.
"We train alongside the US federal law enforcement to handle these very matters, and it's obvious that large parts of any successful plan were just ignored," one source told us.
