Melissa Harris-Perry To George Will: ‘I Hereby Give You Permission To Set Down White Man's Burden'

Melissa Harris-Perry Responds To George Will: ‘I Hereby Give You Permission To Set Down The White Man’s Burden’

Harris-Perry then told Will that his choice of the word “benign” in his piece was noteworthy given that what he’s really saying is something a bit more… sinister:

You suspect something is amiss when, even after the President’s meager performance in Wednesday’s debate, he still enjoys a 46% to 44% lead over challenger Mitt Romney. You see, George, I don’t think it’s all that much of a paradox. It could be that Democrats have effectively linked Romney with candidates, elected officias, and policies that represent the extreme anti-reproductive rights initiatives in the republican party. That big old gender gap could be because of “Transvaginal McDonald,” “Legitimate Rape Akin,” and “No Pills Santorum.” Or, George, perhaps it’s that Mr. Romney chose a running mate that advocates transforming Medicare into a voucher system. That just might have caused reliably conservative seniors to reconsider their willingness to support the President. And George, it could be that, until Wednesday night, Mitt Romney had run a breathtakingly uninspiring campaign, pockmarked with gaffes and inconsistencies and evasion. But, no, George, you took none of this into account. Instead, you wrote that the President’s lead is solid because — I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this — because the President is black.

You say the nation — which is generally reluctant to declare a president a failure, thereby admitting that it made a mistake in choosing him — seems reluctant to give up on the first African-American president. Right! Because we all know that black men hold an unfair advantage in the labor market. You can see the evidence of it all around you. After decades of racial goodwill, shown to black workers as a result of the unfairly imposed guilt trip by radical race card-playing media types like me, black workers now have an unemployment rate of 13.4%. Right. Racial guilt, that’s it.

Well, here’s the deal, George. I hereby give you permission to set down the white man’s burden. If you don’t want to vote for the president, don’t! Plenty of other voters seem to have found actual reasons to support him.

You tell it like it is "My Sister--- MHP!"l

That is how our people feel each and every day when we have to listen
to racist - insulting remarks and see pre 1865 blatant comments coming at us.
And... to be living in 2012 AMERICA with the first "identified" Black Man
Read ...."The Six Black Presidents"/ living in the" White" House that
"WE BUILT"... it hurts to the bottom of our souls.

Thank you MY SISTER for your remarks...you made my day!

We are seeing that same thing when a bunch of rich white males are passing around the drug of conservationism.

It's like when they all agree that "America is a center-right country" and assume the only reason it isn't 100% Right Wing like them is because it still mistakenly CARES about being compassionate to "lesser people".

That would explain why America likes Obama to these idiots. It certainly CAN'T be because he's done anything people actually LIKE. It HAS to be because America suffers from the need to give him a break for all the bad he's done. After all, he's black and America wants to give those types a chance to come in the front door.

Frankly, it's times like this that someone needs to walk in on their little circle with a garden hose....

13. As an older white man

I truly believe the following:

Not until the demographics change, will this country be truly set upon the right course.

George Will's political philosophy is the last gasp of a dying breed. The old, angry, white male is slowly being cornered into irrelevancy. They know this and they are going down kicking and screaming. In desperation, they are feeding their young with blatant misinformation, but their young are in a continuously shrinking bubble and their "message" isn't reaching those outside. Additionally, there are a growing number of older white males that have become more objective when they realize that it is their own best interests that are under attack. This only adds to the diminishing influence of the right.

This is how the American version of Apartheid fails. The communication disconnect creates alternate universes. The two factions are completely alienated. The communication void has no possibility of being closed because one side is armed with reality and the other side is armed with alternate reality.

There are alternate polls. There are alternate jobs reports. There are alternate sources of information. There cannot possibly be effective dialog under these circumstances. This country will remain rigidly divided until the demographics change because the right cannot change. A whole generation has been consumed by an alternate reality. A reality without science. A reality without pragmatism. A reality based upon emotion and a lifetime of misinformation. They are a lost cause and the sooner they become irrelevant, the sooner America will recover from the vast damage that has been caused and will be caused as long as they remain influential.

There has to be some place in the world where people of all colors can go to be free and to raise their families in comfort and security and what better place than here. I don't think our founders set up eligibility qualifications. I'm only sorry that I won't be around in a couple hundred years to see this country realize its real dream: COME ON IN AND DO YOUR BEST! THERE'S PLENTY FOR EVERYONE! IF YOU NEED HELP, WE'RE HERE FOR YOU! THIS IS THE GREATEST PLACE ON EARTH!

The Right has effectively created an alternative universe to feed its own beast.

A very well-funded, well-connected, powerful universe.

And while certainly have seen the racism, I believe that these people are just one more group being used and manipulated to live in hate and fear, to create disharmony and imbalance, to distract from the real goal of the few who really run the GOP and so many institutions in this country: the monied elite who are simply in this life to add to their wealth, protect their wealth and hold power. Sure, some of them are racists as well, but their love of money and power trumps all else. And they will use whatever they can to keep others down to hold their place.

As the Debate continues to be critiqued by major media as to who won and who lost, I've waited with bated breath to hear anyone present the perspective of allowing TWit Romney, via his proclaimed and Media highlighted prevarications, to realize that POTUS was applying an Ambush stratagem that would result in The Twit "Hoisting Himself On His Own Petard". George! Helooooo!

The president being black is not why people are voting for him, you doofuss...

The president being black is why people are NOT voting for him. Ask a Teabagger. Ask a Birther. The rest of Rmoney's guys are just a part of the 1% who want to hoard their money (so those black welfare queens can't get it.... oops even they aren't voting because of blacks!)
