General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsA nursing home aide brought my supper tonight.
My tv was on and I had either CNN or MSNBC on.
She put my tray down and stopped for a minute and watched the tv for a few moments.
I watched her and while we've never really spoke about politics, I've had my suspicions about hers.
Well, after she watched for a minute she said "watch them try to put all of this on trump".
Even though I was kind of ready, it surprised me but I said "they have him on tape just before the rioters and terrorists invaded the Capital building.
She looked at me and said "photoshopped".
I said "but you can see his mouth move an the word are coming out".
They photoshopped the words coming out of his mouth during the speech.
"He didn't tell anybody to invade anything".
I said, and I'm sure that my voice and face looked and sounded as surprised as I was,"it you can see the words come out of his mouth".
As she was walking out the door she just said "photoshopped". " They can Photoshop anything.
I didn't say anything and will steer clear of discussing politics because I only about half trust her anyway.
She's pleasant enough but there's something about her general attitude that doesn't set right with me.
Some of my work over the years was in security, social & music events and bodyguard, and I was good at it. There's a feeling about her. She's pleasant enough but...
Tis isn't a snap reaction, I've been in this nursing home since right after Thanksgiving 2019 and she's been here that long.
It may be nothing but there's no sense looking for trouble. Especially since I hope to be out of here in 3-4 months& we're in line to be getting our first virus vaccine shot on the 12th. Jan.
Well, take care everybody.
Thank The Spaghetti Monster for DU.

And rather than accept it was a mistake, she'll just dig in her heels even more like so many right-wingers do. Their repeated errors seem to make them even more extreme rather than concede anything to their "told you so" opposition.
Just stay safe while you're in there!

(1,408 posts)I've touched around the edges of politics with her, that's why I ended the conversation.

(33,400 posts)The aides and nurses where my MIL lived were all immigrants from East Africa.
There were all lovely people who treated Joyce with respect and compassion. They were all amazed that I knew anything at all about Ethiopia and Eritrea.
sorry you have to deal with that.

(1,408 posts)And a few other things about my situation.
This nursing home is a few miles from my house in a fiercely politically red area of Ohio about 30 miles NW of Dayton,OH.
There is occasionally 2 or 3 people of color that work here but I think only 2 of them are full time aides. One a male and I think he's also one of three male aides here. Should mention hat this is a low 90's bed facility.
The aide in question is probably of some Irish descent.
Like I've said she's okay, just a little what my past working associates and I would have described as "spooky". As in someone to watch.
I'll expand on my situation later when I have more time.

We all share a deep love of John Bryan State Park & Glen Helen.

(14,857 posts)Sounds like the Arcanum area, or thereabouts.
I live just north of Dayton OH, but I'm familiar with people from a wide swath around here. Worked with a bunch of them.
As others suggested, just bide your time until you can get out. No point in arguing with those types, especially the ones bringing you food.

(1,408 posts)I mostly keep my head down and ears open.
Once we get this vaccine done, hopefully with no complications, I hope to be out out in time to put out a garden.
The quarantine kept a lot of people in nursing homes.
My wife has been home this whole time, thankfully with no complications. We live a couple miles south of 'the big city' and even though it's only about 7 miles to the nursing home the last time we had a face to face outside was last April.
Now I see her when she brings me supplies to the main door seperated by about less than 10 ft.
Something funny. TV Channel 7 has a weather cam at the Ford dealership that I can see from my room here.
She's from the 'big city' and I'm a 73 Trojan.

(14,857 posts)My older siblings went to Troy. Two of them graduated from there in the 60's and another one in '71, when Troy possibly had the best high school football team in the whole country -- 20 of them received full athletic scholarships and three of them were later drafted by the NFL. They easily beat Archbishop Moeller in an exhibition game that year, according to an older brother.
I was the very late arrival when our parents were in their 40's. My oldest sister is 21 years older than me. My parents moved closer to Dayton, so I didn't grow up there.
Troy is red too, but the more rural areas around it are super-red. Ugh.
Best wishes to you!

(1,408 posts)I forgot that Troy are Trojans.
My school didn't have football while I was there. They were the state basketball champs in 1969, the year our family moved there. It was a few years later that they took up football.
I think they dropped football in 1959 because a player was killed during a game.
I was so upset with my folks when I found out where we were moving too from Twin ValleyNorth. We lived in West Sonora went to school in Lewisburg and Verona. They had football where I played guard& tackle. But you hit 🎯 on where I lived. I was there for 4 years. Brother and sister graduated from there.

(14,857 posts)Yeah, I made some assumptions.
WHIO (Channel 7) seems to gives Troy a weird amount of attention for a Dayton station. Videos from their cameras in Troy are shown quite a bit, and then "Trojans" completed my wrong assumption.
Hang in there, neighbor!

(1,408 posts)Wile I don't dig through my food before I eat, I am observant and know what the food should look like.
I'm not like most of the people in here. My mind is still clear. Not like most here that sit or lay and stare into space or move thru the halls in wheelchairs going from or side of hall to the other.
My problems are physical having to do mainly with the different professions I had over the years.

(28,342 posts)Consider "firing" her. You have the right to tell them you don't want that CNA in your room. Trust your intuition. Contact the ombudsman if you feel intimidated at all, in any way.
That's my best advice.

(1,408 posts)2/2/21 for the second. My wife's 🎂🎉 birthday is the 4th.
I'll still be here. Going to make sure no side effects and my PT will still be going on.
Now I get to worry about when she can get hers. She is in a higher risk group.
