(7,637 posts)senate has to vote on conviction after an impeachment.
Do you think they can get 67 votes?

(7,637 posts)the senators are shell shocked after yesterday's events. Unlike the house members they are not in gerrymanded districts. There is a wide recognition Trump is a threat and that it was a coup attempt. It is going to be difficult for senators to acquit under these circumstances especially after Trump has 12 days left anf lost the election. Last time they argued to let people decide . Wr have decided so they cant make that argument.

(17,640 posts)Sit down and shut up and you can finish your last two weeks with what tiny bit if self respect you retain. Trump's unusual message earlier this evening would support that. Trump knows he screwed up and is on the verge of being tossed out. Mc is not going to allow Trump to be impeached in his last two weeks, it would be an admission that they failed in their duty to impeach him last time. I believe that Trump has been neutered. Time will tell.

(7,637 posts)however McConnel cant stop an impeachment. If the house impeaches it will have to be taken by the senate , he cant shelve it. I imagine it would be hard for some senators to vote to acquit after yesterday's events.
