(14,998 posts)I think the worst one, by statute, was something like up to 20 years for assaulting police officers. I suspect that prosecutors and judges will not be lenient on those counts. Also, anyone who stole laptops or documents will probably also have the book thrown at them because of the national security angle, but I don't know what the numbers are like for those crimes.
But federal sentencing has a weird point system with lots of factors that influence what the prosecutors ask for. And of course the judge has a lot of leeway in many cases.

A white man threatening the vice president is more likely to get a medal than to see a jail.
Perhaps a minor exaggeration.
