but they miss the obvious logic flaw in that -- if the coup attempt is successful, we would no longer have control of government in order to punish them for attempting a coup....
some people think we should only punish them for vandalism and other light charges.
no. they didn't force their way into the smithsonian or the lincoln memorial. they broke into congress, while congress was officially counting the electoral votes for president, with the obvious intent to, at a minimum, disrupt that process (which they successfully did, although fortunately they merely delayed the inevitable).
it was a coup attempt and should be fully prosecuted as such.

(52,317 posts)there were barricades and the mob removed, they did push their way in, they did break windows to get in, etc.
capitol police was inexcusably light and many of them seemed shockingly not very bothered by the coup attempt, but it's not like they were invited in. the mob knew 100% that they were doing horribly illegal things.

then if your victim survives it is not attempted murder?

(2,626 posts)They are a flight risk and will leave the country to avoid prosecution. They stand to lose a great deal once SDNY and others begin prosecution.
Wouldn't surprise me if they're making arrangements right now.
