...teachers are constantly belittled by the GOP for how they earn a living. They are constantly looking over their shoulders for the administrator who will tell them their job has been eliminated because of budget cuts. They are in constant fear that their schools are going to be closed. In many school districts parents are asked to foot the bill for school supplies for each of their children attending school.

We need to turn our educational system around if we're going to compete at high levels globally. That means Congress needs to start cutting the fat out of the defense budget and pushing some of those savings toward education.

Both of my parents were teachers and they provided an excellent foundation for their students to go out into the world and make their way.
