is highly questionable now, he will still be committing new crimes after a pardon as part of this insurrection. A self pardon is not going to hold up either. Plus NY & hes trapped"

(25,489 posts)that's the whole problem.
Everyone keeps saying things like:
He won't come back from Mara Lago after Xmas
Why did he incite an insurrection? Because he wants to stay in the WH

(25,473 posts)I don't get all of the claims that he's going to run off. Why? He can't comprehend that he's done anything to run from. And it's always to Russia, of course, as if they want him.
On a similar note, many also ascribe way too much of what he does to Putin. I think Trump does it because he's the world's biggest asshole. He doesn't need external motivation.
That doesn't mean Putin doesn't benefit. He quite certainly does. But I think it's more indirect than most seem to believe.

(3,629 posts)I'm guessing several people have had the Richard Nixon conversation with him already, which is why we got the inadequate but so out of character not quite condemnation on Thursday, but since T isn't nearly as smart as Nixon he hasn't got the whole memo yet. I doubt he expected the scary motherfuckers with the zip cuffs and body armor to be among his joyous supporters, or that the fear he wanted them to put in his congressional enemies would be topped off with so much righteous anger. He may not have realized just how loudly "his" people would be screaming for the heads of his erstwhile allies like Pence and McConnell on pikes.
It's fine to scare the crap out of people who were your enemies anyway, that's why our ancestors put heads on pikes outside the village, but once you start doing that to your own supposed allies they don't stay allies for long. I am pretty sure the riots flipped a lot of people who were internally indifferent but publicly following trump because he's the Prez and nominal head of their party. They now realize the danger applies to them too, and suddenly they will be willing to defy him for the sake of their own survival.

(25,489 posts)He's an attention whore, who can't survive without his power and fame.
Someone forced him to give the condemnation speech, by Friday he was back at it again. He was removed from twitter because of it.

(3,836 posts)trump showed him that he could just 'say the word' any time and his powerful, murderous private militia would be there (hidden in the ranks of loud insurrectionists) and cause Pence to disappear. Maybe that's why Pence isn't going along with the 25th. Possibly trump threatened Mother too.
Pence is probably still in shock that his idol even went there. I used to think this "Godfather" type scenario was just hyperbole and way too 'B' movie cinematic, but now I believe trump's deeply seated mobster mentality is as real as any real can get.
Pence went to the WH the other day, possibly to beg for forgiveness for not doing what trump wanted him to do, even though there was no way he could do it. Pence couldn't change the vote, but trump still doesn't understand how it works, he had the same problem with his AGs. trump is completely ignorant about how government functions and won't bother to learn. So people keep dying. Thousands of us every day.
In donald's mind he is already King. Guess that makes Eric Prince or someone like him the King's Hand.
Pence is clearly sharing the duties of court jester with Giuliani & Jr. (unless maybe one of them is wearing a wire)

(11,885 posts)Trump will just escalate this more with his extremist groups and mercenaries to do more attacks, and Putin May start cyber attacking , especially infrastructure groups for him. Trump and Putin have so much to lose if Biden gets in. They'll get exposed, and with republicans they have compromised.

(783 posts)They might not attack the inauguration itself, but from a few comments I have seen Im guessing they are going to surround and occupy the White House. Thats just a hunch.

(2,343 posts)Let these d-bag armed insurrectionists surround the White House. What do they think they're going to do against armored assault vehicles, tanks, fighter jets, apache helicopters, and a military with far more fighters than they've got? Good luck, tubbies.
