How Ossoff and Warnock pulled off epic victories

It took two distinct but complementary strategies to pull off upsets that flipped the U.S. Senate.

Jon Ossoff’s campaign quickly realized that the playbook he used to force a nine-week runoff against U.S. Sen. David Perdue wouldn’t win the overtime contest, so the 33-year-old orchestrated a shift to aggressively reach out to Black voters and other diverse Georgians to turn out.

Raphael Warnock had a different dilemma: For most of 2020, he went largely unscathed by Republicans as they battled each other for a spot in the runoff. Once the matchup was set, he had to fight a torrent of attack ads unearthing his past sermons and stances while still appealing to a base of voters.

Their two approaches dovetailed on the campaign trail, where they ran as a joint ticket: Warnock reminding audiences of his path from Savannah’s public housing projects to the pulpit of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s church; Ossoff recounting his journey as a young Jewish protégé of John Lewis.

But they also overcame uniquely different challenges in defeating Perdue and U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler, pursuing strategies that emerged in fuller detail through interviews with key campaign operatives over the course of the week.

The ads that were run on and almost constant loop on network TV were so disgusting that I believe that they turned Georgians off to their message. The last attack ad I saw was about two minutes before the polls closed.

his bid for a Congressional seat in 2017, then Stacey's loss in the 2018 governors race given Kemp (then Sec of State at the time) had a clear conflict of interest yet did not resign from his post as SoS (fox watching the hen house), and the overall GOP voter suppression/election rigging shenanigans in this past general election - all the confluence of events and the fact sensible Americans, even moderate GOP, just had enough of the lying and corruption, not to mention news of the GOP incumbents' own corruption and their support of the Con. Dems fronted 2 great candidates who are squeaky clean.
I feel all of these things resulted in more Georgians looking for change and a return to decency and normalcy, and it benefited the Dems candidates greatly. That said, it would not have happened i don't think, were it not for Ms. Stacey. The woman ROCKS!! I'm hoping she will bring her Fair Fight program to help turn TX blue too

and I'm sorry it's being crowded out by the events on Wednesday. A stunning combination of amazing Black women leaders (La Tosha Brown/Stacey Abrams to name two), 40,000 volunteers and two candidates who were flexible and smart with their campaigning. So impressed by the fact that Rev. Warnock's volunteers mined all his past speeches for any 'weak' spots and were ready when the Cons came at them. And when the Cons said the Rev. was anti-military they produced a pic of him and his father who was in uniform. Ossoff had been mentored by Jon Lewis. So many angles to this story. Wish I could recce it more than once.
