Save Big Bird!

I’m a Big Bird Democrat
Mitt Romney got into a lot of trouble recently, when he said he was going to axe Big Bird and the rest of Public Broadcasting. Funding for NPR is less than 0.01% of the federal budget. Cutting NPR to balance the budget is like trimming your fingernails to lose weight. It’s not a serious strategy.
What kind of country do we want to have? Do we want Big Bird and excellent public education for our kids, medical research, clean air and water, safe roads, bridges, food, and medicine, and health insurance for poor people? Or do we want poor people dying in the streets, while incompetent defense contractor CEOs, who can't even protect plutonium stockpiles from 82 year old nuns*, get paid millions of dollars?
The various institutions we all support, through our government, are what make us a civilized nation. They are there for a reason. We cannot axe them without becoming barbarians. Think of the children! Save Big Bird!
