I'll start.
I'm from New York. I live in DC.
I can't be in either state, unfortunately on Monday.
If I were in either state, there would have to be something extraordinarily important for me to be doing anything but voter registration on Monday (Columbus Day). I mean extraordinarily important.
Please help kick this thread and tell me why you can't register voters in one of those two states on Monday.
There are many good excuses (I think mine is passable, for example).
But let's all figure out what we can and can't do on Monday.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]My daughter is in Nevada this weekend with the Obama campaign, canvassing and registering voters, but I can't do that kind of walking anymore.
The best way I can help is to work as much as I can so I can keep donating as much as I can, as well as helping disseminate information via email, knowing that my kids and friends will plaster the things I send (most of them from DU) all over Facebook.

As someone who has enjoyed that hospitality, I know how important it is.
Ultimately, I just couldn't deal with being away from my cat for so long, so I swapped houses with a friend in Pennsylvania for a few months!
It was a 35 minute drive in every morning (but more like 25, with how I drive), but it was worth it!

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]My daughter told me she registered an older man, a Marine veteran, who had never voted before, and he said his first vote ever was going to be cast for President Obama.
I don't know anything else about his story or why he'd never been registered to vote before, but she said that this was why she volunteered for this gig.

(45,558 posts)I tried doing it back in 2008 and I had a really tough time. I can't really do suppression because then I get too congested and end up in the hospital. I did my time for 25 years, I had to resign from being the Treasurer and just gave up my last tie to the political world when a judge I did finance reports just passed away.
All I can really do is send a check.
I wish I could do more. Perhaps when I get a lung transplant down the road I can get back to it.

(4,507 posts)sad reality.
Also how we get screwed on what we get in services in relation to what we pay out in taxes.
Also why Wyoming gets similar per person anti-terrorist funding to an actual target like, I don't know, say, New York.
The electoral college has completely skewed national politics. But it's the reality, and for now, we can only grin and bear it.

(25,415 posts)and help with money from the Dems. He has good ads here now. Chris improved in the poll in Quinnipiac and it is now about a tie. The fact that people will vote more for Obama in this state should help him.
It would be a shame if McMahon is elected. I have met Chris (he actually lives in my old hometown of Cheshire) and he is a wonderful guy and his views are very liberal. He is just great on women's issues. He is only 39 with a young family and understands the importance of education in this state as well.

(17,111 posts)I am from 'The Land Of Lunatics.'
I network with a growing group of New Dems and Progressives. I quit working with the useless Dem hierarchy a while back. A friend of mine has been in Dem state politics on many levels forever. The other day she told me the state and national party were useless. I welcomed her to my world.
This state is not a monolithic RW entity as the MSM has you believe. There is that group of old politicians who have rigged the system forever and still have an iron grip. Their corruption is beginning to come to light. The Governor is a moran although the MSM thinks she is swell.
One day there may be a revolt here. It will be in all directions. You will have the Southern version of gangs who will try to take each other out. Secession will have to wait until we sort out our own mess and that may take a while.
As it is, I still work with those trying to form a better and stronger party. I also send money to people such as Warren and Heitkamp in ND to name a couple.
Cheers!
