One of the most disturbing movie, well, at least from my POV, is playing on the cable now....

The movie is The Front. It's a powerful movie in so many ways.

I keep my eyes open for it. Almost missed it.

Here is the details on the movie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074554/

Keep an eye out for it. It will tear your heart, well, if you care about such things as freedom of speech and government searching out "enemies"...

It's really important now, has been, especially since the planes flew into the towers, even though the movie came out in 1976. Ironic even in this day.

Blacklists are right around the corner if the GOP takes complete control over government. It scares the shit out of me...

I wouldn't say that the Front isn't a comedy... WCGreen Oct 2012 #3

Not a comedy to me at all. Especially with regard to the character of Hecky. no_hypocrisy Oct 2012 #5

it is just worse under Pubs especially the current crop of TeaHadists running around America today.

Yes it is a good movie. Also check out Guilty by Suspicion, but it is not a comedy like the Front.

Not slap stick or in your face but it is still funny.

The cast and writer is not known for being in serious dramas either.

Hecky was based upon the actor, Philip Loeb, who was blacklisted, fired from Molly Goldberg's TV show, and committed suicide in a hotel, although via sleeping pills. (BTW, Loeb was a great influence in the actors' union and brought many reforms.)

Zero Mostel, also blacklisted, was a good friend of Loeb. I'm on the brink of crying during this movie, seeing Mostel simultaneously paying homage to his dear friend and having the last word on their blacklisting.

And read the closing credits where you see how many blacklisted writers contributed to the script, also getting the last word literally and figuratively.

1st feature: "Big Jim McLain"

A real over-the-top "Red-Scare" film from 1952

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Jim_McLain

House Un-American Activities Committee investigators Jim McLain (John Wayne) and Mal Baxter (James Arness) come to Hawaii to track Communist Party activities. They are interested in everything from insurance fraud to the sabotage of a U.S. naval vessel.
