For the unacquainted, this was a remarkable 10 season show called "Spooks" in the UK. It is available on Netflix and other outlets via streaming. There is remarkable continuity and consistency of dramatic verisimilitude throughout the series and these two shows are about an attempted coup in Britain with associated civil rights abridgment. I rarely recommend series to a community, since enjoyment of entertainment is always a matter of taste and sophistication, but these two episodes in particular are so germane to here, today, that it is just stunning.
I believe that we are on the precipice of disaster, and if Romney and the present-day Republicans were to take over the entire government, then America, or the shell of what we used to call America, is finished.

I love the program. Spine tingling suspense; tight production; better than James Bond.
The only problem is that one should not get too attached to a character. They have a tendency to get killed.
It's the best of the genre.
I do not know what season WGVU is showing. They seem to do a lot of repeats. I don't mind, though. It is still so dense with info that repeats are just fine.
BTW, I love the character, Ros Myers, but all of them are great. Just don't get too attached to them.

(28,866 posts)I managed to get through nine full seasons
and half of the last.
I just couldn't finish watching it because
that show is so hard on all my favorite
characters.
They make me get really drawn in, compelled,
absorbed, and attracted to a character.. then
they either kill them off or show them as a
traitor or double agent. That got way too
depressing for me, but even so, I still think
it's a great show!

(591 posts)This is one of the best shows ever created. For those that haven't seen it, It's a bit like 24, but even better (more sophisticated)
The dialog in this episode is prescient and relevant to this day, regarding the middle east and "terrorists". Rarely is this kind of thing seen on US tv.
Spooks S3 E10:"The Suffering of Strangers"
"...Danny, in a bid to save Fiona, provokes Ahmed, saying "Fuck you, you death-worshipping fascist!", and is executed as a result. Khatera forces Adam to send her to the function the Prime Minister will attend. By then, Khatera reveals she has a bomb inside her stomach that will release a chemical agent when the Prime Minister enters. No longer wanting to die, Khatera surrenders and reveals Fiona's location to MI5. Special forces arrive in time to kill Ahmed and his men before they can burn Fiona alive. As Adam and Fiona reunite, Ruth grieves over Danny's demise.

Ever see "Fiona" on Weeds? LOL.
On edit: I guess if someone hasn't seen it, now they don't have to!

(28,866 posts).. with the great Ian Richardson and Diane Fletcher as the Lady
Macbeth type behind the throne so to speak... reminds me of
the Reagans and a great article I read comparing Nancy to Lady
Macbeth.
I think that many Reeps actually want a religious monarchy, and
boy are the Romneys made to fit or what... and the Bushes. My
late mom used to call Dubya King George the First because he
wasn't actually elected by the people.
MI-5 is hands down the best tv series I've ever had the pleasure to watch.
