POLITICO - Romney trailing badly among Hispanics - much worse than McCain

Last edited Sun Oct 7, 2012, 08:50 AM - Edit history (1)

Politico has a new headline article this morning about Obama's ground game with Hispanic and Latino voters. It emphasizes Romney's horrible standing among Hispanics and discusses the micro-targeting by the Obama campaign and intensive ground game that's been going on for many, many months. Its a very interesting article. Although Politico is a specialty website, its themes are often picked up by the MSM. (there is also the obligatory comment from the Romney campaign that they will use the debate to try and make inroads, but the article doesn't really give that any real discussion)

A few key paragraphs:

Latinos are now moving in large numbers toward supporting the president. The latest Latino Decisions tracking survey released Tuesday show Obama leading Romney, 77 percent to 23 percent. The Romney campaign strategy counted on 38 percent as its target share of the Latino vote.

The biggest challenge for the Obama camp right now is making sure Latino turnout correlates with his support. In Colorado, Democratic strategists hope turnout reaches more than 12 percent of the total vote, up from 10 percent in 2008. For Elena Squarrell and her team — who work from one of the campaign’s 55 field offices — this means going back and knocking on all the same doors and talking to the same people and encouraging them to mail in their ballots. “It’s about the follow up,” she says. The campaign is also exploring creating events around voting — like parties where everyone marches to the post office to mail their ballots.
Earlier this week, about a dozen volunteers worked the phones at the small field offices in Commerce City, a largely Latino area. There were young and old volunteers who had done their share of door knocking. Elvis Leon, a 27-year-old Iraqi war veteran, says he has been volunteering about eight hours a week, as much for his parents as for Obama, because they came to this country from Mexico and Guatemala 30 years ago to find the American dream.
Leon says his folks don’t know every nuance about policy, but they are well aware of Romney’s comments, disparaging 47 percent of the population. “It was offensive to them, ” he says. “They never wanted handouts. He’s a mechanic and she’s a housekeeper. They worked every day of their lives and still work. Now they own their own home.”

At least Politico sounds like it could be a Latino name.

How 'bout when he said that Hispanics should "self-deport"?
Or when he said that the Arizona law should be a model for the nation?

Several of their reporters are regulars on M$M - including Jonathan Martin who shows up on MSNBC continually, so they have bulldozed themselves into the "mainstream", generally with a conservative bent since they were founded by conservatives. They do have a few Center lefts there to supposedly "balance" but it seems like the place has become a revolving door of reporters.

Romney on the other hand embraces the racist and xenophobic Arizona law. Many Latinos felt there were some things in McCain's immigration policy that would benefit them such as the DREAM act and a path to citizenship, but the Arizona bill that Romney supports is absolutely toxic to Latino voters. The anti-immigrant extremists in the GOP are chasing Latino voters away in droves.

Theres no way Romney can overcome this level of distaste amonghispanics, short of blatant voter suppression . And I suggest Hispanic voters bring video cameras or phones to videotape individuals who are breaking the law trying to stop voting. They need to get NAMES SO THEY CAN BE CHARGED WITH A FEDERAL CRIME!
