U.S. Capitol Police on Sunday announced the death of an off-duty officer. No cause or date of death was released.

Police identified the officer as Howard Liebengood, 51, and said he was assigned to the Senate Division. He had been with the department since April 2005.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues,” reads a statement from the Capitol Police. “We ask that his family, and other USCP officers’ and their families’ privacy be respected during this profoundly difficult time.”

He could have been sickened by the coup attempt, or he could have known about it in advance. He could have been grieving over the death and destruction on Wednesday, or he could have been grieving over something entirely non related and personal. Suicides are tragic. Beyond that I need to know more before I could say any more.

of a cop that was trapped inside the Capitol, in a hallway, with a bunch of thugs. The officer was shaking, just standing against the wall, and shaking.

Saddest video. I couldn’t imagine being him. I’m not sure if this man did commit suicide, but where ever he is, he needs help.
