Romney wants to cut taxes on the rich, but says we can't afford PBS, or even Big Bird?! WTF?

This is how I'd frame the argument. It's not that funding Big Bird is important to the national interest, but it's a prime example of the cuts Romney is willing to make in order to finance yet another round of huge tax cuts. It's a very odd person who's first mention of something he would cut is a free educational program for children.

The attack on PBS is nothing new. The GOP's been at it for decades. Educated people vote (D). HopeHoops Oct 2012 #6

was when he banned it in his house. CEOs aren't big fans of people learning to question things.

I know that's a generalization, but there's only so much you can fit in the subject line. But the reality is that the GOP relies on a small set of demographic groups, the really rich, the fascists, the just plain racist, and most importantly the ignorant and uneducated. My wife (kindergarten/early childhood teacher) has not only seen too many studies over the years to count, but knows from first-hand experience: kids who watch educational programming do far better than those who do not. It seems obvious, and I'm sure it is to the GOP leaders, but obvious or not, the studies and direct observation support it. It's a common theme in her teacher friend circles.

The other problem is that NPR has long been the place to turn for information if you want to know what's actually happening. Perhaps they do have a liberal bias, but they don't make up "facts" like a certain RW "fair and balanced" network I know of. Information is a dangerous thing. People might know what's going on and make decisions on their own! That ruins their entire plan! Combine education with information and you might get - LIBRULS - PEOPLE WHO THINK FOR THEMSELVES EVEN! The uninformed and uneducated are far easier to control with propaganda.
