Feeling Stressed And Helpless

From the exhilaration of the Georgia elections to the total despair of the attempted coup I am completely worn out. I feel like I need to take sides and stand in front of the capital to protect it from those that wish to destroy it. The problem with that is the enemy is within the capital and I can't watch the front door and the back door at the same time. This feeling of hopelessness is overwhelming. Facebook is useless now as my MAGAT family members are spinning themselves silly trying to justify the treason and complaining their First Amendment Rights are being taken away because platforms that preach hate and murder have been taken down. It will be hard to concentrate on anything other than the inauguration for the next 9 days but for my own sanity I must. I first found the underground just after the 2004 election. It has been my go to sanity source for a long time and I am grateful for it. I pray we all survive the next 9 days and this republic still stands!

It feels like a train wreck that you cannot stop watching. I found Democratic Underground in 2003 when my Marine son headed off to the war in Iraq. I don't write much, but I appreciate all the members in this group and what they write. DU helps with my sanity, too.

... stability and another year till things don't feel like hell.

Then, crush the kGOP with

1. letting DC and PR in as states with senators
2. enacting the VRA witch will stop a ton of voter suppression in red states (the REAL reason polling is so horrible in just the US)
3. make all attempts at non legislated voter suppression a felony.
4. implement a fact check consortium similar to the fairness doctrine through the FCC to blunt the effects of sedition via FAUX News et al

I am optimistic. I could be wrong, but I think the failed Jan 6 putsch has perhaps finally broken the Trump fever. Even the PGA is pulling away from Trump. Trump loses power every day.

I'm not minimizing the danger. The right wing has cultivated "militia" for decades. Right wing and white supremacist violence is probably going to continue. But I'm hoping that the Republican party is under so much stress that it might not survive in one piece. That could help us a lot.

Remember, Trump *never* reached 50% popularity during the entire run of his presidency. That is truly remarkable. He was never popular.

If it's tried once they will try again. I have been preaching for the last 10 years that the country is in the same place it was in 1850. I have handed out copies of Profiles of Courage which so clearly details this time to anyone that would read it. If the Democrats can spend 18 months making sure the stench of Drumpf is not forgotten their is a chance.

... needs to go into the dustbin.

3 "businessmen" republican presidents in my voting lifetime and all three left with a devastated middle class, their policies are worthless and if this week proves HANDS DOWN that they're not interested at all in a western style democracy nothing will.

Your assessment that we're at 1850 is spot on we have that and the overt lies told in the south that got mostly poor white males to fight and die for the rich peoples "stuff" ... total 100% lies same as today.

If we can get a fact check consortium based off multiple news channels input we can get closer to having a fact center vs the extra splintering we have now.

That would defeat Murdochs and all future attempts when the source doesn't want to sign up to the consortium

I'm actually finally ready to see the Democrats face the (substantial) headwinds.

But I seldom use Facebook, live in Europe, and have no MAGAT family members at all, so I have an easier time of it.

I'm actually beginning to feel slightly better, whether warranted or not. Just hold on a little longer. Only 9 1/2 days left to go.

like cooking, gardening, ect sites that have a hard enforced “no politics” rule. Just keep yourself away from the nuts, including family.

We are not the only sane and thoughtful voices. It is hard, nay, maybe impossible, to clearly hear through the current noise and see through the smoke. But as I think Churchill said, if you are going through hell, keep on going. Thank god for Nancy P. and the judges and the SOS that stood firm and continue to keep going and doing the right thing. It is trying, stressful but have faith, we will come through and we will grow and prosper. Dark winter days for sure, but spring is coming!

I constantly watch the news because I'm worried about what comes next. Can't focus enough to meditate.

The only thing that helps my stress levels is going for a walk, or bike ride, or exercise in general.

If we all torn to exercise we might be strong enough to survive the insurrection and lead the.. what are we going to call our great national renewal?
