January 6th could have been worse ...

… a LOT worse. And the main reason it wasn’t is that – as we have seen over the past four years – Trump-humpers are stupid.

Yes, there were people who entered the Capitol that undoubtedly had the motive, and the means necessary, to cause bodily harm to those they’d been told had ‘stolen the election’.

But one can’t ignore the abject stupidity of your average Capitol Gang participant – yukking it up for the cameras, acting as though they were TPing the principal’s house or pulling off a panty-raid at the local sorority.

I’m sure that what Trump was picturing in his deluded mind was a well-organized army, consisting of hundreds of thousands of his worshippers, storming the Capitol as the French once stormed the Bastille – a mob so full of passion for his cause, they’d stop at nothing to stand their ground on his behalf.

What he got instead was a disorganized bunch of yahoos who were mostly interested in appearing in a March Madness-style video that would go viral on YouTube – to the envy of all of their friends.

What he pictured was his personal militia occupying the nation’s Capitol in support of his madness – what he got was a chaotic horde of idiots he himself described, very dissappointedly, as being “low class”.

I am not defending nor excusing the events of January 6th. But in truth, it would have been a lot worse if Donald’s “very special people” consisted of something more than a collection of gullible idiots – who are now sitting in holding cells, wondering why their Messiah hasn’t posted their bail.

Donald Trump’s “base” has now been exposed as what it’s been all along – a coalition of mindless dupes who are more interested in fifteen minutes of FaceBook fame than four more years of Trump.

1. They had no plan, no leadership, no realistic goals.

So they acted like a herd, just following after those in the front of the line. Like kids who broke into their school, breaking down windows and doors, scaring the people who work there as they set about making little messes, stealing some stuff, snatching souvenirs, taking selfies, and ignorantly posting photos of their crimes through social media.

No one is that stupid. But there they were, well costumed with lots of fun and intimidating accoutrements on display to impress the media. They shouted slogans. They yelled cuss words, called their opponents bad names. Some of them turned to acts of violence, deliberately try to injure and even kill anyone who opposed them. But they say they are hero's.

2. We got very lucky they are so stupid...

You are exactly right. We are so lucky Trump is a master marketer but dumb as a rock about strategy. We are lucky Trump had no maturity or moderation skills so he could not have done even more damage. We are lucky his sons are stone cold morons. We are lucky Jared is a fool. We are lucky General Flynn was retired and no other active General went that way. And we are super lucky the vast majority of his supporters are dumb people with the maturity and patience of a spoiled 3 year old.

Had anyone along the line been highly intelligent about strategy, America might be a dictatorship right now in the midst of a true civil war. No doubt almost all registered Republicans would have turned in their neighbors and looked the other way while they were rounded up. Arnold was right, this could have spiraled out of control.

Pasting on a phony smile and sticking up a thumb while fleecing rubes makes him more of a con man.

3. Bad timing, he's the king of it.

When he screwed up the Post Office, he did it about a month to early. Everyone caught on in time to compensate in time for it. All of his lawsuits were a month late, according to the judges. He was the football coach that punts on first and ten and then runs a trap on fourth and thirty. Even Stormy Daniels complained about his timing.

I did see a poll where it said 45% of Republicans (who are 25% of the nation) believe it was the Democrats’ fault. But in that same poll only 5% of Americans called the rioters “patriots”. So hopefully, it’s just a fringe group who believes in violence to achieve their goals.

That the "commitment of his [Trump's] voters" was so great that Democrats had no chance. No, they're stupid. They're from all classes, low, middle, upper. Class has nothing to do with it. They're stupid.

for their efforts. They were purposely left under-staffed and without protective gear yet they did their jobs. This makes me as proud as ever to have a front row seat to the freak show.

8. Hitler's SA had lots of actual veterans...

soldiers still reeling from the loss of WWI, trained, combat experienced in the trenches of France and the steppes of Russia. Sure, there were many kids along for the ride, enjoying the chance to be bullies and rowdies, but at it's core the NAZI cadres were hardened vets.

Trump doesn't have the same numbers. Sure, there are (sadly) many vets amongst the Trumpers, but our forays into the Middle East have not produced the mass numbers that WWI did. Everybody in Germany was touched by that. Americans hardly know we're still fighting over there. Trump's supporters are mostly whiny punks who've been stroking their egos on the internet with tough guy talk and thinking their first person shooter games are preparing them for combat in the real world.

that showed Biden with more support from the military than Trump. So that’s good news.

Repubs talk a big game, but if we want vets and the military to actually be taken care of, elect Dems.
