As Governor, Romney Disapproved of Funding Multiple Sclerosis Services
by War on Error
I found this information ON THE RECORD, in the on-line Massachusetts Senate Journal on this date: July 14, 2003 Journal of the Senate, where it clearly states that Governor Romney DISAPPROVED OF A MEASELY $162,368 OF MS FUNDING for services, even though his wife, Ann HAS MS.
As heartless as this sounds, trying to defund MS spending is a drop in Mitt's "The Governor disapproved this item" bucket list. Governor Romney disapproved of funding for The Special Olympics, for VETS, for The Blind, and many programs to help the disabled, food for kids, and services for the elderly.
THIS IS GOVERNOR ROMNEY'S RECORD AS GOVERNOR. Can you imagine the damage a President Romney, backed by the heartless Ryan and the Tea Party candidates could do to "the least of these?"
Today, I found the tragic story of Annette Funicello's battle with MS. You can watch the video at this site:
Annette Funicello: Her life with multiple sclerosis
I spent a few hours today compiling the lists of laws newly elected Governor Romney disapproved of and tried to cut funding for during his first year ON THE RECORD as recorded by the Massachusetts State Senate Journals.
The lists are SHOCKING! Read through the lists to see if your pet project(s) was disapproved.
Try to pass this information along to the media, if you have a moment.
These lists broke my heart. I am almost too stunned to be able to put this together for you.
Nothing I have read has made me feel more disgusted about Romney's record, including ALL I have read about Bain Capital, or disheartened at the prospect of Mitt Romney becoming President.
Following the lists, I will share the research journey I took to find this information. It's a dark journey beginning with a search of the Department of Justice's website for "Mitt Romney." Yes, there were some DOJ search results for "Mitt Romney" and for "Bain Capital."
Here are the lists of items "His Excellency the Governor" disapproved of and/or tried to cut funding for presented in the Massachusetts Journal of the Senate seven months after he took office. Only two days are presented: July 17, 2003 and July 14, 2003.
Massachusetts Journal of the Senate, July 17, 2003. (this link includes the MS funding disapproval); and
Journal of the Senate, July 14, 2003.
Let's reiterate the most shocking item Governor Mitt disapproved of, funding for Multiple Sclerosis, from the July 14, 2003 Journal of the Senate: Section 620, 10:
Here's the rest of the list in no particular order. I have highlighted some items to help those looking for specific interests:

Said funds shall be expended to maximize matching dollars to be used for services provided by the program as managed by the Central New England chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
(The Governor disapproved this item.)

Even MS advocates says Mitt is 'detrimental' and 'extremely harmful'
by Kaili Joy Gray
Is Mitt Romney the absolute worst guy in the world at making friends and influencing people or what?
It's pretty typical, during an election, for a candidate's spouse to take up some pet cause that, if her husband is elected, will be her thing. Telling kids to Just Say No. (That sure worked, huh?) Literacy. Fitness. What have you.
It's not supposed to be controversial. The role of the first lady is symbolic (and, you know, a little antiquated), but hey, the missus needs something to keep her occupied for four to eight years, so ...
With the Romneys, however, nothing is simple. Even Ann Romney's intended pet causemultiple sclerosisjust makes things awkward for Mitt:
There's a ringing endorsement. Hey, Romneys, thanks for caring about MS and all, but, uh, your actual policies would be "detrimental" for us.
It's not that MS advocates aren't grateful for the thought:
Detrimental. Extremely harmful. How does Ann pitch that the next time she's giving a speech to the MS community? Please vote for my husband, whose policies would be detrimental and extremely harmful to you.
Yeah. Good luck with that one.
Mitt can't even go on a glorified photo-op trip abroad without causing an international incident. Ann Romney can't even give her heartfelt speeches about MS without alienating the MS community. Is there anything these people can do right?

MS advocates say that policies Romney now supports would be detrimental for many MS sufferers, and they are actively opposing these proposals. Which means that Mitt Romney is now at odds with the MS community he and his wife have long supported.
There's a ringing endorsement. Hey, Romneys, thanks for caring about MS and all, but, uh, your actual policies would be "detrimental" for us.
It's not that MS advocates aren't grateful for the thought:
National MS advocates are appreciative of Ann Romney's efforts to help boost the profile of the disease and raise money for the cause, but they are opposing her husband's campaign health care policy proposals, many of which are mirrors of GOP legislation currently pending in Congress. MS advocates believe many of the proposals would be extremely harmful to most people with multiple sclerosis.
Detrimental. Extremely harmful. How does Ann pitch that the next time she's giving a speech to the MS community? Please vote for my husband, whose policies would be detrimental and extremely harmful to you.
Yeah. Good luck with that one.
But in this case, the MS community has good reason to root for the other team. MS advocates could well face the possibility of having to use money the Romneys helped them raise to fight a President Romney's attempts to kill policies and programs they need to survive.

and putting it on Medicare? Still comes out of the public pocket.

cut the funds. Romney really cares when a problem hits a friend, church member or relative, not so much about the vast number of people that he doesn't know or share a religion with.
