It is clear to me, those words uttered by Trump on video directly to the rioters moments before they violently attacked our Capital, these words were scripted ahead of time and put there clearly to cover his ass in any impeachment or prosecution. He will say "i told them to go home it's not my fault they didn't listen to me." his minions in the impeachment hearings will repeat it. that will be their focus. that will be their excuse. that will be his way out. that line was written ahead of time to provide an out, an excuse, and to deflect all the blame.

(768 posts)I thought the insurrectionists were already in the Capitol when Trump made that speech. Maybe I do not have my timeline correct.

We love you. Youre very special, he said to supporters even as they marched through the Capitol waving Confederate battle flags. Youve seen what happens. Youve seen the way others are treated that are so bad and so evil. I know how you feel. But go home and go home in peace.
The repeated vague references to a broad cast of nefarious enemiesthey and others who are so bad and so evilis typical of authoritarian tactics for cementing loyalty by invoking powerful but nonspecific threats. Though ostensibly intended to slow violence, Trumps message was instead rapidly removed from Facebook and other social media platforms over fears that it would make things worse.
