Try to get your head around this:

people thought they were going to storm the Capitol, kill or take hostage members of Congress, force them to name Trump the winner of the election & place him in power for another 4 years (or whatever) & then fly home & go back to work.

13. He actually told them in his speech that he would march with them to Congress.

Twice I think, and I saw it in the transcript.

The only marching he did was dragging his ass back to his bunker where he could celebrate with the kids......

3. They think they own the country

Many haven't come to grips with the mindset of these folks (and many elected Republicans). They think the country belongs to them. It is theirs. They are the owners. What they say, goes. They make the rules, etc.

If they say the election is stolen, then it is. And that means violence is justified to "restore" the rightful leader in power. And those leaders will not only protect them but exalt in their patriotism.

Once you understand that, lots of their behaviors make sense.

7. We have to accept "some folks just ain't right in the head" is a sad fact

There is so much "information" that helps these people build a thought bubble that becomes their reality. It used to be there were just some Rushies doing this off in the far fringe but they built on that, they self reinforce within their own circles and Trump took it public and no one stopped him. Now we are forced to stop it and thank god the police are rounding them up and popping bubbles. And when no help comes from Donnie or anyone else and they realize they will be living in mommy's basement (or jail) forever if they don't change, maybe it will go back to the fringes. And I think Congress should also sue these folks civilly for pain and suffering. There is a line between free speach and threats and harassment and screw the ones that crossed it to the wall.

because Donald Trump called you to agitate on his behalf--they would already have to be kind of mentally "off". My husband works with people like this, people who were attending boat parades and rallies across the state all year, wearing their hats and t-shirts at work. His employer never gave them any hassles or reprimands. Probably the same for all of these folks, most of whom seem comfortable or even successful. Why would they think they would be in any kind of trouble? They're the "right" kind of people! The right color, the right party. They've had nothing but privilege and deferential treatment, told they were great citizens and patriots.

Would shrug their shoulders, say well that’s fair and not do anything.

But not all of them. They were people hoping for the chaos that would have ensued

If they had succeeded.
Or maybe they didn't even think that far ahead.

They thought they were doing nothing wrong. They've been completely deceived by what the concept of freedom is.

Reminds me of Jack Ruby's bafflement that he was arrested for killing Oswald.
