Trump advisers warn him he could face civil liability over inciting insurrection: "Think O.J."

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-warned-potential-civil-liability-aides-clear-desks/story?id=75180691

In the wake of Wednesday's assault on the nation's Capitol, President Donald Trump has been advised he potentially could face civil liability connected to his role in encouraging supporters who went on to storm Congress, sources familiar with the conversations told ABC News.

"Think O.J.," an adviser explained it to Trump, according to one source. It was a reference to O.J. Simpson, who was found not guilty of murdering his ex-wife and a friend but later faced stiff civil damages after being sued by his ex-wife's family.

Prior to Wednesday, the president and his advisers had been discussing a self-pardon -- something that would be both historic and untested in American history -- in the wake of a phone call with Trump and Georgia election officials that was made public. The sources say if the president were to self-pardon, it would only strengthen the motivation to being civil cases against the 45th president.

-snip-

After these conversations, sources say the president grew angrier, and the entire pardon process has been described as "on hold" -- meaning others who have been lobbying the president for pardons, including his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, may not receive one.

Given Trump's narcissism, I wouldn't be at all surprsed if he feels that if he can't escape prosecution, no one else should get a pardon.

That would be the ultimate Trump betrayal for all who so overwhelmingly deserve it.

He won't do it, even for his kids. The last thing he wants is everyone who got a pardon to begin testifying against him....

It is all, and only, about trump. nobody else matters unless he can hurt them somehow.

if trump can't pardon himself, then NOBODY else will get one either!

Classic trump, take them all down with him, and while he is at, he might as well release all the dirt he has on every republican in the house, and Senate.

supposed to forfeit. And of course he's someone who might be asked to testify against Trump, and now be unable to plead the 5th.

Trump is probably wishing by now that he hadn't pardoned Manafort.

I know from experience that they will take everyone they think didn't help them enough down with them. What better way to get even then to deny pardons to all the enablers, and fellow criminals.

Not only is he narcissistic enough to think that if he can't escape, no one should get a pardon, his advisers have probably also told him that pardons would be used against him in civil cases as evidence of a consciousness of guilt.

I’m sure one of those law firms he’s stiffed over the years would be more than happy to take that on. Leave his children broke too.
