Diplomacy seems foreign to Romney

http://www.news.com.au/news/spain-quip-adds-to-mitt-romneys-foreign-policy-trouble/story-fnejlrpu-1226490301986
IF MITT Romney becomes president of the US, he might need a crash course in diplomacy.

"I don't want to go down the path of Spain," Mr Romney said last week during the first presidential debate. He argued that government spending under Mr Obama has reached 42 per cent of the US economy, a figure comparable with America's NATO ally. "I want to go down the path of growth that puts Americans to work."

The remark was Mr Romney's latest to cause international offence during a campaign that much of the world is closely monitoring.

-snip-

The criticism comes at an inopportune time for Mr Romney. Mr Obama has consistently outscored his challenger in polls asking about national security leadership, but the administration is struggling to deal with last month's attack on the consulate. Four Americans died, including the first ambassador killed in the line of duty in more than three decades.

Mr Romney will have a chance to fully articulate his vision of America's role in world affairs when gives his address at the Virginia Military Institute. But the furore in Spain, however minor, instead serves as a reminder of Mr Romney's record of diplomatic stumbles, such as calling Russia - not Iran or China, for example - America's primary global adversary in March.

I'm looking forward to the Foreign Policy debate. Truly, I am.

1. Well of course he'll talk about an inelegant turn of phrase and expect a 'do-over'

I thought the Chimperoo was bad but Romney is a rolling national embarrassment. Can you imagine this "it" calling the shots in the White House?

3. Bush was bad, and we had fair warning. We also know that Romney will be worse.

That's okay, I guess, when war is the negotiating instrument of choice.

Economics BS he's familiar with. Interactions between various nations, and knowing their political and economic histories?

The chance of some real epic fails is going to be high. I bet the media spins it as "Brilliance!" though, since they don't have anything else to run other than "a close race" until Nov 7.
