Manchin sides with Republican talking points

Posted without comment

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) on impeachment: “I think this is so ill-advised for Joe Biden to be coming in, trying to heal the country, trying to be the president of all the people when we’re going to be so divided and fighting again.”

Yesterday, he sang a different tune. He’s trying to be everything to his WV voters but he can’t be counted on for anything.

If they primary him they will lose the seat in the general. Joe Manchin at his worst is much better than josh hawley who beat blue dog claire mccaskill or whatever douchebag republican wins in West Virginia

Paula Jean Swearingen won the 2020 Senate Primary. The runner-up was also progressive in his politics but she lost the general election badly. To be fair to Swearingen her opponent was the daughter of a popular West Virginia governor.

safe atm, I figure 54 would have done it this time. 54 as you also have like 3 others besides him who lean to the moderate conservative (Manchin's own self description) side, in Sinema (for sure) and likely Kelly and Hickenlooper.

2022 is going to be a tough slog, as it is the first midterms for a Dem POTUS (historically a disaster for us, especially the last 2, 1994 and 2010), plus there are only 3 truly realistic great shots we have at pickups (open seats in NC and PA, plus that piece of dogshit Johnson in WI, Rubio in FL will be tougher and even if ancient Grassley rerires, IA is becoming pretty damn ruby red) but we have 4 at risk seats we have to defend as well (Warnock, then NV, NH, and Kelly in AZ, if the Rethugs find a decent candidate).

Primarying Manchin will not work, and IF the Rethugs take back the Senate in 2022, I can see him flipping to them in preparation for his re-election bid 2024.

for someone with his views. We shouldn’t make a move on any important legislation until we have all our goals and priorities solidified ... and have then involved him to find out what he wants/needs in return. Don’t let the fucker nickle and dime us away from center-left. Find out what’s most important to him and use it as leverage.

My mom (Conservative Trumpist) just told me she liked Joe Manchin. And I heard Faux News playing in the background. I guess it's a start.

I don't have a problem having politicians like this in our party, but they should NOT be the primary spokespeople, especially if they are going to parrot right wing talking points which this guy typically does.
