If the eruption of hate

settles down.

I am not in a forgiving mood, and personally would like every person who participated in the attack on America be charged with felony murder, or manslaughter and have their U.S. citizenship revoked, on their permanent record. After the Civil War, all of the soldiers who fought against the U.S.A. had to sign loyalty oaths to get their American citizenship back. Back then, maybe we needed able-bodied people to make sure the U.S. kept expanding and developing and soldiers on the losing side were reabsorbed into American culture, unresolved hate and all. Back then, the rebellion was in a specific place in America. What we have today is spread across all states and more difficult to calm. Maybe now we don't need traitorous malcontents who will just grow this rebellion again. Maybe since diehard anti-Americanism has risen again, we can settle a harsher punishment on the the leaders and followers. There is a fine line between dissent and sedition. As we deal with the fallout, we have to not only find a way to discourage the fascism we see rising, but also protect our freedom of speech. We are going to have to try to find a way to instill a sane love of country in our citizens, if that is possible. We have to take the profit motive out of the equation. Even as they attack our country, they make money on every effort they put out there.

I just read a terrific post about Middle Ground here on DU. It occurs to me that, as the author of that quote, Rebecca Solnit points out,
"When you stand on the ground of truth and justice, let others find their way to you. If you stand firm, many will in the end. Not everyone will; that does not change what truth and justice are.” Democrats are standing on the ground of truth and justice. We have had 2 presidential elections, probably more, that show that a majority of Americans support the path we want to take, and more and more people are leaving the republican party because they do not support the path their leadership wants us to take. e are past the point of wondering which vision, which set of plans, is best for America, and where our leaders should take us. Progressivism, not fascism.

Let the traitors be punished and the others come to us in a we want to work with you way. Remember they brought bombs, guns and a gallows to the capital to hurt and kill. They did both and they and trump need to pay now not a year from now or never.
