Wouldn't it make more sense for Pence to 25th the president

if only for his own and his family's protection?

As I read it, former vice presidents only get Secret Service protection for six months after they leave office, whereas former presidents are entitled to protection for life.

Given that the Trumpers now want to murder him, I would think that self preservation, if not patriotism, would shove him in the direction of availing himself of the 25th amendment.

Perhaps he doesn't want to further anger all the MAGA's, and that way he can live his life with relative safety.

and thinking of MAGAts, and the protection of the Secret Service professionals, I have no doubt which course I would choose.

Then again, I was never one to call my SO "mother."

And "acting presidents" aren't entitled to the same Secret Service protections and perks as actual presidents?

Obviously then the people who drafted these provisions never anticipated our current state of affairs.

and become too psychologically dangerous to function as president. They were considering temporary physical disability, as when Ike had a heart attack or when Reagan got shot.

Putin has no doubt supplied them. Let's not forget maanafort, an extension of putin's reach, chose pence for trump.

Why?

Trump has goods on pence and pence doesn't want them out. period.

and have all the powers of the president, but he doesn't get a jersey with #46 on it. The purpose of the 25th was to ensure that someone - normally the VP - can legally and quickly assume the duties and authority of the presidency while the president is incapacitated in some way, with the idea that he can go back to work when/if he recovers. If he doesn't recover and dies or is permanently incapacitated, then the VP can get the promotion. But the declaration that the 25th is being invoked doesn't automatically make the VP the president.

It's just so true.

Also the old French adage: "If life was simple, people would die in cemeteries."

Not apropos of anything in this discussion, but I like it nonetheless.
