Data point: Mary Beth
I just returned from a family reunion in Oklahoma. I was talking with my 78-year-old cousin, Mary Beth about the upcoming election. MB is a good ole Oklahoma girl, very religious, tinted beauty-shopped hair rising closer to God, loves her family and her country...her husband was a career Oklahoma National Guard guy. (And I might add, she is one of the sweetest people I know.) In the two previous elections, she voted for George W. Bush, because he was "such a nice Christian man."
So...the subject of the election arises. She tells me "I'm voting for Obama." I was stunned. "That Romney was born into wealth, he has never had to work for anything and he has no idea how the rest of us live. I've watched him talk and it's clear he doesn't have a clue."
"Besides," she continued, "he's after Social Security and Medicare. There are lots and lots and lots of people who depend on that, including me. He doesn't have the first clue what it takes to make a living or to worry about what's going to happen to you."
So, my friends, she is my comfort. No matter the polls, no matter the negative talk, by golly, if Mary Beth is voting Obama, "that Romney" doesn't have a chance. Fight on!!!
