QAnon,Conspiracy Theories, Moving dates

I have one friend of FB who has gone off the deep end not the QAnon world. She is the whole deal - thinks she is getting all this "insider information" that the "MSM" "won't tell us," ties it all in with some weird religious stuff. I know her from an organization that she no longer participates in and we only have 2 mutual friends, one of whom is the president of the organization, so there's no interaction with her on FB since she doesn't show up on posts of mutual friends.

All that to say that her FB page is my "go to" for monitoring the crazy.

And the latest thing I've been kind of fascinated by are the moving dates for when Trump will let it be known that he is indeed the true and rightful president. The current projected date for this announcement is March 3rd.

I've been following Parlertakes on Twitter and from that and the things my friend posts, it seems Trump's followers don't have any problem with these dates being a moving target. My friend literally posted a picture of her bottled water and her solar-powered phone charger all laid out in preparation for they "10-day blackout" - the beginning of which has come and passed. She's posted about pending Trump's pending speeches or statements that never come. Few people ever respond to her posts, but one person did ask about a statement that was supposed to happened at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday and she responded, "I guess something changed."

It just has me thinking - who is really behind this? I mean, yes, it's all conspiracy theories and bullshit, but who is pulling the strings? Is there a single person or group behind this or is it just one continuous loop of group crazy?

when inevitably the predictions don't materialize, they augment the theory/prediction so that not only is it explainable how and why it didn't happen, but it now has a certain new logic to why it didn't happen.

Remember all the "Planet X Collides With Earth" predictions and dates? (And also Second Coming and Alien Landing predictions).

Thanks for posting this.

I have long known not to argue with people who have gone down these rabbit holes because they will not accept any information that contradicts what they have built up in their minds. And I live in the south so there are plenty of people like this around me.

I guess I am a little overwhelmed right now at how pervasive this has become and that people have actually been driven to act on these crazy ideas.

They aren't doing it for some sort of fame (or infamy), IMHO. They are doing it for some sort of maniacal self satisfaction. Like an 'under cover' Jim Jones.

Or Vladimir Putin.

There were constant predictions of mass arrests of Democrats and all sorts of things that never happened.

mentioned in various places.

The stuff she writes that are her own comments are the most chilling. Like she doesn't understand that she is suggesting many of her own neighbors should be executed.

hoping your friend has enough influence to spread their lies.

Maybe she suffers from schizophrenia and it makes it easier to believe in delusional conspiracies.

And, to understand Trump you've got to know about one of the greatest influences in Trump's warped life, Norman Vincent Peale.

Trump is a member of the Qult.

You see QAnon is a made to order cult in search of a following. Who put it there? Who cares, as long as it's clear putting it there had malicious intent.

There is also a sub reddit called Qanon casualties with people coping with Qnuts. Thankfully no one in my close circle is sucked into the crazy.

...and always have an excuse for continuing to follow even after that date comes and goes, always accepting the excuse.

Even when there's a single individual driving the immediate audience, it's never just the one guy. There's an entire eschatology he builds on.

I think part of it is people like your "insider" having a desperate need to be on the righteous side of The Thing That Changed Everything, whether it's The Second Coming or the Q-balls' Big Reveal, and they really don't want to give up the heady feeling of Being Part Of It.

Especially since the alternative is admitting they've been gullible dopes for a long time.

So even if they can't be in Red Squadron making trench runs to destroy the Death Star, they picture themselves there in Yavin base moving dots on a tactical board or cutting through Imperial jamming or otherwise helping to coordinate the attack against the Evil Empire. When all they're really doing is going "pew pew" with action figures.

21. Flat Earthers

The Venn Diagram of flat earthers and Q Anon followers is just 1 circle.

Same mentality. They actually get together and come up with rather creative experiments to prove the earth is not curved. They go through some rigor, write it all out, and agree to what the results should look like in order to prove or disprove their hypothesis. Then when the results come in showing the curvature of the earth, they just say that they must have screwed the experiment up somehow, they either reattempt it with different parameters, or they just move onto something else. Simply no opportunity at all for them to change their minds.

Q Anon is the same, they give a series of dates and vague things to look for, when the dates come and go, they say "trust the plan" this is all part of it, everything actually happened exactly like we said. And that's the scary part, the plan they are "trusting" is one where Donald Trump takes power with the military providing the muscle and they execute all Democrats in Congress and some Republicans and they install new Q Anon following legislatures. That's the plan they're so excited about, mass murder and dictatorship.
