(5,173 posts)Is not enough. They should be removed from office. Facts are not an opinion. Trump lost. To continue the lie is dangerous and destructive to our coutry.
They should be prosecuted for inciting this with lies meant to benefit them monetarily.

(18,402 posts)If banning him from future office is the most tangible result from conviction, isnt there another way to do that?
Possibly, but its a long shot and has never been used.
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which was passed after the Civil War, says a person cannot hold office if theyve engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, unless two-thirds of both chambers of Congress vote to allow it. The provision was used after the Civil War to keep Confederates out of Congress.
If Congress censures the president, or if the House impeaches him for inciting insurrection, that might be used as a legal basis for suing to block Trump from running in the 2024 election, though its a long shot legally.

Hes not going to run in 2024 anyway, so its really a moot question

(16,616 posts)Also, what about at the very least censuring the Repukes in the House, since it is probably not practical to throw more than 100 congresspersons out of congress?
Impeach 45 and censure him? That's okay with me. But censure by itself is what you do if somebody uses a curse word on the floor. We are talking about trying to overthrow the government. That POS that called AOC what he called her should have been censured (I would have liked to see worse, but it is what it is).

Censure them all, every one who voted not ot certify, even the ones who changed their minds post Insurrection. Then give them a chice: resign in dishonor, or be expelled in dishonor.
