(13,806 posts)Because they are not allow to wear anything over their habits(uniform) unless it is a winter coat or rain coat. I had a teacher who wore a habit except for while she taught physical education. She taught religion too and remember her telling us about what could do and couldnt do. Now, given the times were in, this could be true? Very disappointing and disturbing if so?
obamanut2012
(26,087 posts)And yes, nuns can wear stuff over their habit.

(18,291 posts)Their order isn't recognized by the Catholic church.
They are perfectly on-brand for Trump...fake nuns.

(81,543 posts)Nuns for Trump! Sisters beam at President Trump's rally in Michigan as he says it felt 'like God touched my shoulder' when he took antibody cocktail for COVID-19
Thousands of President Trump's most earnest supporters arrived to his campaign stop in Michigan on Friday, but it was five nuns that snagged his attention.
While speaking to the crowd that rallied at Oakland International Airport in Waterford Township about his bout of COVID-19, Trump directly addressed The Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary from Hartland.
'Sisters, I wasnt feeling too good,' he told the women, who arrived in religious habits and sat among others who carried 'Make America Great Again' signs and donned MAGA paraphernalia.
'And they gave me something called Regeneron,' Trump added. 'The next morning, sister, I woke up and it was like God touched my shoulder.'

(412 posts)Went to 12 years of Catholic schools. If these are actually nuns then they violate so much catholic doctrine by supporting a man who commits adultery, tells lies, and hates the poor such as immigrants. But then again look at how many right wing Christians also overlook these.
PS. Wonder what Pope Francis would thing about this since by all purposes he is against most of Trump's policies.

(43,459 posts)do at the present time other than right before we won the two GA runoffs. The SCOTUS is a huge issue (IF they invalidate my marriage the next working day I am going into the US embassy here and renouncing) and I am also, atm, dreading 2022, given the disastrous outcomes of last 2 first term Dem POTUS midterms (1994 and 2010). The nation is full stop schizo atm, there are 100 million or so straight up violent, white nationalist, scientifically brainwashed potential (or fully actualised) lunatics dispersed everywhere, even in the giant urban areas. I do not feel at all safe coming back, and my wife (not a US citizen, I am the only one in both our families who is) is far more anti moving back than I am.

(47,547 posts)There are plenty of people who wish they could leave. These truly are dark times in the United States. Though I'm sure things will get better, there has been so much damage I don't think everyone will recover. I'm glad you found a place where you feel at home and safe.

(1 post)I just moved to Hartland, MI in March. There is a big manufactured home community across the busy highway from them. We hear their church bells every hour, and they turn off at a certain time at night, but I haven't figured what time, yet.
They have two signs at the road that say 100% American, 0% Socialism, and one other that is too small of a text to read, while climbing to 55mph.
I am just finding out, that they are not registered with the Catholic Church at all!! They're just right wing nut jobs!
I mean, come on!! Jesus was a socialist!! He fed the hungry and poor, and fed the sick! They have a massive tent setup out there, like they're getting ready for a sale right now.
I do not know if they have non-profit status here, but as far as I know, nuns don't have jobs. They don't pay taxes. They live on donations from people. They don't pay for clothes. They don't pay for food. They don't pay for medical care, dental care, or vision care! They're leeches on society! Is that not the definition of benefiting from Socialism? Living on donations, and paying for nothing?!?
I'm just finding all of this out! It's crazy!

"The Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are not, at present, in full communion with the Catholic Church and thus have no canonical standing within the Church," a spokesman for the Diocese of Lansing, Michigan, told NCR via email.
The Leadership Conference of Women Religious and the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, the two associations of Catholic women religious in the United States, also confirmed to NCR that the Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are not members of either body. They are also not listed in the Official Catholic Directory, the only authorized directory listing official Catholic institutions and organizations.

She has led six cross-country Nuns on the Bus trips focused on tax justice, healthcare, economic justice, comprehensive immigration reform, voter turnout, bridging divides in politics and society, and mending the gaps. Sr. Campbell wrote the famous Nuns Letter, considered by many as critically important in convincing Congress to support the Affordable Care Act in 2010.

An excerpt from her prayer at the 2020 Democratic convention:
During the weeks and months ahead, stir our hearts and minds that we might fight for a vision that is worthy of you and your call to honor the dignity of all of your creation.
A vision of who we are as a people, grounded in community and care for all, especially the most marginalized.
A vision that cares for our earth and heals the planet.
A vision that ends structural racism, bigotry, and sexism so rife now in our nation and in our history.
A vision that ensures hungry people are fed, children are nourished, immigrants are welcomed.
