No better place to begin than to report that an unrepentant Trump says if he cannot pardon himself, he will pardon no one else, calling the new impeachment charges a "witch hunt."

Moreover, Cruz and Hawley may be censured or expelled from the Senate for their traitorous incitement of rioters.

3. House Democrats Briefed On 3 Terrifying Plots To Overthrow Government
Tue Jan 12, 2021, 01:35 PM
Jan 2021

WASHINGTON ― Capitol Police briefed Democrats on Monday night about three more potentially gruesome demonstrations planned in the coming days, with one plot to encircle the U.S. Capitol and assassinate Democrats and some Republicans.

On a private call Monday night, new leaders of the Capitol Police told House Democrats they were closely monitoring three separate plans that could pose serious threats to members of Congress as Washington prepares for Democrat Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.

The first is a demonstration billed as the “largest armed protest ever to take place on American soil.”

Another is a protest in honor of Ashli Babbitt, the woman killed while trying to climb into the Speaker’s Lobby during Wednesday’s pro-Trump siege of the Capitol.

And another demonstration, which three members said was by far the most concerning plot, would involve insurrectionists forming a perimeter around the Capitol, the White House and the Supreme Court, and then blocking Democrats from entering the Capitol ― perhaps even killing them ― so that Republicans could take control of the government.

Tue Jan 12, 2021, 04:47 PM
Jan 2021

Last week, Intelligencer’s Olivia Nuzzi and others reported that President Trump had been turned off by how “low class” the mob who carried out the assault on the Capitol looked. At the Atlantic, Adam Serwer offers a corrective response:

They were business owners, CEOs, state legislators, police officers, active and retired service members, real-estate brokers, stay-at-home dads, and, I assume, some Proud Boys.

The mob that breached the Capitol last week at President Donald Trump’s exhortation, hoping to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, was full of what you might call “respectable people.” …

The notion that political violence simply emerges out of economic desperation, rather than ideology, is comforting. But it’s false. Throughout American history, political violence has often been guided, initiated, and perpetrated by respectable people from educated middle- and upper-class backgrounds. The belief that only impoverished people engage in political violence—particularly right-wing political violence—is a misconception often cultivated by the very elites who benefit from that violence.

10. Republicans: The only way to stop more riots is to let Trump off the hook
Tue Jan 12, 2021, 01:57 PM
Jan 2021

As he left the White House to travel to Texas for an event touting his border wall, Trump said, "This impeachment is causing tremendous anger and they're doing it, and it's really a terrible thing that they're doing." He told reporters, "For Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to continue on this path, I think it's causing tremendous danger to our country, and it's causing tremendous anger. I want no violence."

Republican members of Congress who echo Trump's claim that impeachment is the thing that's endangering the country by enraging the pro-Trump mob seem to be suggesting that their actions can be swayed by terroristic threats.

"Will seeking political retribution calm the violence and division in our nation?" Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska tweeted on Monday. "We can keep canceling one another, hurting one another, hating one another, or we can stop. The flag is still flying over the Capitol."

Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas explicitly said that another round of impeachment could cause more pro-Trump violence.

"Those calling for impeachment or invoking the 25th Amendment in response to President Trump's rhetoric this week are themselves engaging in intemperate and inflammatory language and calling for action that is equally irresponsible and could well incite further violence," Brady tweeted.

WASHINGTON (SBG) — Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer is calling on the FBI to add anyone identified breaching the Capitol during last week’s violent riot to the federal no-fly list.

Schumer sent a letter Tuesday to FBI Director Christopher Wray, saying the attack on the Capitol as Congress was voting to affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s win was “domestic terrorism.” He said those who stormed the Capitol should qualify as “insurrectionists for the No-Fly List.”

Schumer told Wray that they must also be fully prosecuted to the full extent of federal law. The letter was obtained by The Associated Press.

41. UPDATE on Lonnie Coffman: This Is the Arsenal That an Alabama Man Brought to Washington
Tue Jan 12, 2021, 07:17 PM
Jan 2021

On Wednesday morning, Lonnie Coffman, a 70-year-old man from Alabama, parked his pickup truck near the Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington, DC, and joined the mob walking toward the Capitol. Later that day, Capitol Police officers saw a handgun in Coffman’s car while investigating reports that pipe bombs had been left in the area. When the officers searched the vehicle, they found a staggeringly large arsenal that included a shotgun, an assault rifle, a crossbow, a stun gun, and Molotov cocktails.

Alongside the weapons were handwritten notes that divided Americans into “good guys” and their enemies. One note listed two phone numbers for offices belonging to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who helped lead efforts to overturn the results of the election. Another stated that Rep. André Carson (D-Ind.) is one of two Muslims serving in Congress.

When he came back to get his pickup truck Wednesday evening, Coffman, carrying two pistols, told law enforcement officials that the Molotov cocktails were made of gasoline and melted Styrofoam, a combination designed to ensure they stuck to their targets as they burned. Now he is facing 17 counts of weapons charges.

Exhibits filed in federal court by the Justice Department on Tuesday show the extent of what Coffman had in a truck parked blocks from the Capitol.

57. GOP's Debbie Lesko warns Democrats that they may 'incite more violence' by impeaching Trump
Tue Jan 12, 2021, 10:49 PM
Jan 2021

Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) on Tuesday warned House Democrats that they could be responsible for inciting violence if they dared to impeach President Donald Trump a second time.

During hearings on a resolution aimed at impeaching Trump again, Lesko decried the Democrats for being "divisive" in wanting to impeach the president one week after he encouraged an angry mob to help him stop Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election.

"I really do believe that you pushing this is going to further divide our country, further the unrest, and possibly incite more violence," she said.

Lesko went on to acknowledge that Democrats had won the 2020 election, and she encouraged them to "chalk up your wins and move on" from the riot the president incited last week at the Capitol building that left five people dead.

Mikie Sherrill says unidentified lawmakers led ‘reconnaissance’ tours ahead of Capitol attack

Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) said Tuesday that she witnessed colleagues escorting people through the Capitol on Jan. 5 for what she described as "reconnaissance" ahead of the next day's violent insurrection that left five dead.

In a 13-minute Facebook video billed as an address to her constituents about the House's efforts to hold President Donald Trump accountable for inciting the riot, Sherrill included the allegation as part of a call to hold Trump's allies in Congress accountable as well.

"I also intend to see that those members of Congress who abetted him — those members of Congress who had groups coming through the capitol that I saw on Jan. 5 for reconnaissance for the next day — those members of Congress who incited the violent crowd, those members of Congress that attempted to help our president undermine our democracy, I'm going see that they're held accountable," Sherrill said.

SEPTA police investigating 7 officers who attended Trump rally that preceded Capitol riot

By Ryan Briggs January 12, 2021

SEPTA Transit Police is actively investigating seven officers who attended a rally organized by President Donald Trump supporters in Washington D.C. last week that ended with the storming of the United States Capitol Building.

“They are being investigated to see if they were involved in riotous behavior or for violations of our social media policies,” said SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel on Tuesday.

What started as a rally organized to pressure Congress into overturning the results of the 2020 election over baseless voter fraud claims ended with five deaths, including the killing of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.

Nestel said the department received information last Thursday about one officer who attended Trump’s “Save America Rally” rally. After investigating, officials later independently discovered six others from the department, which has 260 sworn officers, had also attended. Nestel indicated that the transit agency would share the results of the investigation with the FBI.

64. Rep. Greene: President Trump will remain in office

Marjorie Taylor Greene@mtgreenee

President Trump will remain in office.

This Hail Mary attempt to remove him from the White House is an attack on every American who voted for him.

Democrats must be held accountable for the political violence inspired by their rhetoric.

I proudly defended President Trump on the House floor against yet another attempt to remove him from office.

Extreme rhetoric from Democrats created an entire year of BLM/Antifa terrorism.

Tonight, I exposed their hypocrisy.
