(7,349 posts)I think the inauguration must be public.
Add tons of security. Put him in a bullet proof Lexan box. BUT, he must be seen to take the oath.
But Kamala at a different location if we must, but we must demonstrate that the nation will continue and the transition will occur.

(16,829 posts)He can be seen on television taking the oath of office. Safer for the journalists too.

(18,402 posts)My first reaction was also to have it completely remotely, or at least to have a remote swearing in followed by immediate orders by newly installed President Biden to direct all the relevant security forces; then several hours later, when security is in place, to have a publicly televised swearing in on the Capitol Steps.
But I really trust Biden to know what he is doing in advance re: security. And his first action should not be to show fear or weakness, but to make a defiant stand for democracy and American values. Finger still very crossed, though.

(1,096 posts)that the inauguration is being handed to domestic terrorists as an opportunity cause death and mayhem. And they are not being secretive about their plans.

(34,414 posts)be like FDR's inauguration in 1944, except have the whole thing inside. An undisclosed location would just feed the notion that his presidency was somehow "illegitimate," that there's something to hide. Inside at the White House would be better.

Hold it in an undisclosed location. Please.
oh, I just learned that all members of Congress have a "right" to attend. This year will need to be an exception, without question.

(2,626 posts)cowardice. It is taking our determination to defend and protect the Constitution and our Democracy to a new level required by the current occupant who incited insurrection and his thousands of willing participants to that deed.
If we are not willing to do all that's needed to protect our Democracy out of fear that the insurrectionists will call us cowards, then we've got some re-evaluating to do about what our true priorities are.
Are we going to risk blood-shed and anarchy because we're afraid of being "owned" by the MAGAs? It's none of their damn business where the inauguration will be held. Why do we care what names they call us? Who cares what they believe? They're trying to overturn the government of the United States of America fcs. Their opinions are meaningless. It is their actions we endeavor to thwart. The rest is meaningless commentary.
I want my country back. I want the Rule of Law. If that means going the extra mile and taking unprecedented measures, such as holding the inauguration at an unspecified location, how can that not be worth it? How can that be worse than risking the unthinkable?

(866 posts)Have every branch of the military follow the Beast to Arlington Cemetery and back to the White House. Have them all honor their Commander in Chief. Thats what Biden wants. Thats what we need.

(9,961 posts)... this should seriously be considered. I do not know all the facts... I assume Joe will consult with others and make the safest decision for all concerned.
