Beaten, sprayed with mace and hit with stun guns: police describe injuries to dozens of officers

Beaten, sprayed with mace and hit with stun guns: police describe injuries to dozens of officers during assault on U.S. Capitol

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/police-capitol-injuires-trump/2021/01/11/ca68e3e2-5438-11eb-a08b-f1381ef3d207_story.html

How those injuries occurred is varied: pushed down stairs, trampled by rioters, run over in a stampede, punched with fists.

An officer was hit with a bat. Another was struck with a flagpole. A third was pinned against a statue. A fourth was clobbered with a wrench. One became stuck between two doors amid a frenzied mob. Many were hit with bear spray.

More than 58 D.C. police officers and an unknown number of U.S. Capitol Police officers were injured in the hours-long riot and assault on Wednesday as lawmakers were formalizing the election victory for Joe Biden as president. It was a battle in which police were outnumbered. One Capitol Police officer died in circumstances that remain unclear.

D.C. police said Monday that one District officer remained hospitalized. They described many of the injuries as sprains and bruised arms and legs, but many others appear far more serious and caused by repeated blows from sticks, poles and clubs and laser pointers shined into officers’ eyes.
Greggory Pemberton, head of the D.C. police union, called the riot “a nightmare.” He said one officer suffered an apparent heart attack after he was hit six times with a stun gun, and another lost the tip of his right index finger, possibly when it was crushed.

Worse than I thought because other reporting I have read the focus was only on the Capitol police but others forces who came later also were attacked
Hope they find all the assailants
Lock them up!

2. Hit six times with a stun gun until he had an apparent heart attack--that's attempted murder.

here in PDX they shot a protestor square in the face with rubber bullets for holding up a boom box in front of the injustice center. he's alive but will have permanent brain damage and many long term problems, already been in and out of the hospital a few times.

but hey, open the door and hold it open for a mob of dangerous MAGAts, should be no problem, you can reason with those people!

they were in mortal danger, outnumbered, hamstrung, and set up to fail. But they kept Congress safe somehow.

Shit, my Dad threw it in my face WHILE THE PUTSCH WAS HAPPENING.

I don't think anti-police violence ever approached 1/6 levels anywhere this summer, but I'm not sure.

11. Not quite. When they're being professional, police serve a purpose.

When they're SWAT cosplayers, angry steriod-hopped bullies or just wandering around looking for trouble, then, ACAB.

"Unit cohesion" and that thin blue line BS has to stop. Police are not social workers, nor are they military arm of the "judicial system". They are to police. Keep peace, attempt to prevent crime in progress. Report on crime or suspicious incidents. Call for appropriate backup when necessary. Follow the process and rules of legal system.

Do their fucking duty while in uniform, no more, no less.

It's not supposed to be a "nice job". It's supposed to be a duty - just like other service professions (medical, teacher, civil service, etc..)
