INSURRECTION HOTEL
JAN. 11, 2021
By Jeff Andrews
... JLL, the real-estate brokerage that has been marketing the sale of the Trump D.C. hotel, says it is no longer involved in the effort, according to the Washington Post. The Trump Organization has been shopping its lease on the 263-room hotel for the past year, hoping to fetch $500 million for a hotel that, according to one potential buyer, has underperformed since Donald Trump took office in 2017.
... There were already clear signs that the hotel was becoming a liability when the Trump Organization put plans to sell it on indefinite hold in November after bids came in at less than half the asking price. And its requirement that the new owners retain the Trump name as part of any deal was a sticking point ...
... Trump hotels worldwide have suffered since his fateful trip down the Trump Tower escalator in 2015, which transformed his brand from brash rich guy to racist authoritarian demagogue. Businesses and conferences wont want to deal with the potential blowback from booking a Trump hotel, and the presidents business partners are already cutting ties with his properties ...

Let them beg for water and be told to drink from the toilet. Let them eat frozen bologna sandwiches. Let them go for days without bath or shower, wear the same clothes for 6 weeks, use toilets that are too backed up to flush. Then after spending time there, let them be deported, with only the dirty clothes on their backs to Mexico to find a place to live.

(31,261 posts)The location is excellent. With Trump out, his name no longer associated with the hotel and a few wisely done renovations, the hotel would be a choice sleeping and meeting place for those that can afford the room rates and high priced amenities like meals and drinks.

The lease agreement between the Government and the Trump Old Post Office LLC explicitly prohibits any elected official of the U.S. Government from serving as a lessee or from obtaining any benefit that may arise from the lease. Article 37.19 of the lease states:
No member or delegate to Congress, or elected official of the Government of the United States or the Government of the District of Columbia, shall be admitted to any share or part of this Lease, or to any benefit that may arise therefrom; ....
Pursuant to Article 37.19, Donald J.Trump was in breach of the lease when he became the 45thPresident of the United States on January 20, 2017.

(31,261 posts)sell successful businesses. 99% of the businesses that you see for sale have big problems that the sellers are working to hide from potential buyers. I believe that dynamic would apply infinitely to anything that Trump is trying to sell.

I can answer the bit why The Con man didn't want the FBI to move across the street,, but I bet you already know.. nothing like having his enemies with the power to run surveillance on his nefarious friends and illegal activities as he's already being investigated by the FBI, Enemy #1.. That's my theory.. I don't have his confession documented, but I betcha someone does.

(8,090 posts)Drumpf stopped the deal because he didn't want HQ torn down with a new hotel built that would compete with his in the Old Post Office building.
msfiddlestix
(7,284 posts)so the old Hoover building was going to be torn down, which threatened his property.
That figures. Wonder what the possibilities will be once Biden is in. or if the location is an option anymore.
Given what Biden is having to deal, this one ain't high on the list of priorities. Thanks.

(63,221 posts)It could really be a lovely, exquisite property without the Trump name on it. Everything they touch turns to s**t. They are so gaudy and tacky and the sad thing is that they don't even realize it. They think that they are the epitome of high class, whereas they are the complete realization of all that is vulgar and lowbrow. How this family managed to dominate the US government I will never understand.
Hekate
(90,750 posts)...that is how they would live themselves if only they had the chance. The Apprentice was a 14-year commercial selling the fantasy about how they would behave, if only they had the chance.
There was an old tv commercial where the catch-phrase was spoken in a broad Bronx accent by a blonde: Class. Real class. Cant remember anything else about the ad, just that faux-tacky, faux-glamorous dame who could have been a mobsters girlfriend in an old, old movie, saying Class. Real class.
The interior shots of Trump Tower penthouse say it all, afaiac.
If only any of them knew that their tin-pot god excitedly watched the insurrection on live tv, but ultimately his critique was that his cultists looked low-class.

(2,009 posts)It's only a couple blocks from the current FBI HQ, and the FBI was planning a new location somewhere in the 'burbs, until it was nixed by the Trump administration. Speculation is that
1) Drumpf Org wanted FBI HQ to remain close to his hotel so that they could get business from travelers visiting FBI HQ
2) Drumpf Org did NOT want the current site of FBI HQ to come on the market as prime downtown DC real estate for potential site of a new competing hotel.
The article below emphasizes the second point.
