Simply, because they think they are perfect at everything including lawyering. Try as they may, they feel they haven't been adequately represented in the idiot courts by fools as attorneys.
I've been waiting for this shoe to drop for the last six months. The odds of it happening go up six fold after next Wednesday when the real heat starts.
Of course, as the curtain closes the last card is played, where realizing they've screwed themselves. They try to file a motion for a mistrial due to something to do with how they want a do-over with a real lawyer.
