'Becoming radioactive': Trump races to rehabilitate his brand in final days in office

WASHINGTON — As the House of Representatives voted to impeach him for inciting last week's violent breach of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters, President Donald Trump has an increasingly singular focus in his final days in office: rehabilitating his brand.

Trump's concern about the future of his personal fortune is among the reasons some of his allies have suggested in recent days that he invite President-elect Joe Biden to the White House for the customary meeting between a sitting and a newly elected president, according to three people familiar with the discussions. And it is why Trump may deliver a farewell address, a tradition for outgoing presidents, to highlight what he sees as his accomplishments.

Proponents of such moves have made the case to Trump that anything he can do to make good on his very recent commitment to a smooth transition of power, even at this late date, "will be better for your brand in the long term," a Trump ally said.

"The brand is becoming radioactive," this ally said. "That matters more to him, because that's going to have real, tangible effects on his life immediately."

And it's not just the current damage. Just wait. It's gonna get a whooooole lot worse.

On edit. If I were Joe Biden, I'd turn him down flat even if he did offer the traditional visit....which he won't offer. Sorry, I don't visit with traitors.

I have personally worked with radioactive materials that had a half-life of less than 60 days.

There are thousands of nuclei with shorter half-lives than that.

It's amazing that the word "radioactive," has taken on a negative meaning, particularly because without radioactivity, the planet doesn't have all that much hope.

Do you need me to spell it out from the OP to my post?

Again, have a nice day.

I'm rather surprised that I find myself participating in this conversation which is supposed, as I understand it, to be about "wit."

No, you don't have to spell it out.

I regret that I object to locutions that are supposed pass as funny but are something quite different.

Language matters.

I do not regret that as a scientist, casual locutions that generate wrong headed associations bother me. If one were to study language, one would find that some pretty awful stuff has happened because of casual linguistic sloppiness.

The association of "radioactivity" with "reprehensible" is sloppy language that actually kills people precisely because it isn't questioned.

The overly casual use of certain phrases has had historical consequences.

For the record, when I was using radioactivity, I was doing so to save people's lives.

But I get what you were trying to say Billy boy! I'm sure that in real life you're very witty. Have a nice evening.

People might be inclined to wipe their asses with Trump Toilet Paper but I'd be afraid it would give me a rash. I can only guess what kinds of endorsement deals and naming rights are in his future. Sewage treatent plants, compost bins (nothing says rot like a Trump)....
