Boeing-owned Insitu to pay $25M to settle complaint that it sold drones with used parts
Boeing-owned drone maker Insitu Inc. said Tuesday it will pay $25 million to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by knowingly submitting materially false cost and pricing data for multiple contracts it won with the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and U.S Navy.
It was the second time in a week where Boeing paid a multimillion fine to settle federal investigations into allegations it defrauded government agencies.
Last week, the Chicago-based jet maker agreed to pay $243.6 million to settle DOJ claims that its workers fraudulently misled the Federal Aviation Administration about the safety of its new 737 Max before two crashes killed 346 people.
In the latest settlement, Bingen, Washington-based Insitu agreed to pay to resolve allegations that it misled the two U.S. military agencies by promising to provide new drone parts under seven separate contracts, but instead later delivering only used, reconditioned or recycled parts, the Department of Justice said.
