My daughter just told me that the loan repays will only be for Federal loan programs.
We took ours out from the State of NJ's HESAA program, because the Federal loans we were offered were through some shady third-party lenders, who would be managing them. You know, those lending institutions that are a bit fugazi.
We had smaller Stafford loans and paid those off first.
One of my daughter's friends just refinanced $100K worth of loans and now won't be eligible.

Two of my kids won't qualify, the other we are paying direct with home equity and work/pension loans.

(1,328 posts)I wont be getting any of that back. But you know what? Im just glad that a bunch of kids and their parents will get the burden lifted from their shoulders. So, tough for us. Good for many.
