WASHINGTON (Reuters) Federal prosecutors offered an ominous new assessment of last weeks siege of the U.S. Capitol by President Donald Trumps supporters on Thursday, saying in a court filing that rioters intended to capture and assassinate elected officials.
Prosecutors offered that view in a filing asking a judge to detain Jacob Chansley, the Arizona man and QAnon conspiracy theorist who was famously photographed wearing horns as he stood at the desk of Vice President Mike Pence in the chamber of the U.S. Senate.
The detention memo, written by Justice Department lawyers in Arizona, goes into greater detail about the FBIs investigation into Chansley, revealing that he left a note for Pence warning that its only a matter of time, justice is coming.
A public defender representing Chansley could not be immediately reached for comment.

(25,601 posts)I mean, all in fun, right? Cant we all just get along?
You know...you KNOW... that this was planned from the highest levels. This was far from a bloodless coup. They were going to kill targeted Dems and Republicans who had betrayed them. I recall a RWer I knew years ago, now deceased, who wanted someone to kill Senator McCain. This guy, about whom Ive written here, was a real low-life but extremely intelligent and studious, and I was frankly thrilled to hear he had died. He was a danger to others-a 63 hulking angry aggressive creep.

(92,454 posts)the SC saying that once trump is out of office the Senate cannot try to convict him
If that fails they will say that trump was just exercising his first amendment rights
The other issue will be if trump tries to pardon himself
These will decisions will have long standing impact on our country
Regardless, the states need to pursue charges against trump ASAP
This is probably the most dangerous time we are living through in recent times

(22,674 posts)For their part in it. Their actions every single day to dehumanize democrats, liberals, and progressives as less than them, needs to be held to account.
So glad people are coming to the rescue against the insurrectionists:

U.S. now says no evidence of 'kill capture teams' at U.S. Capitol
By Brad Heath, Sarah N. Lynch, Jan Wolfe
3 MIN READ
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C. said on Friday there is no direct evidence to suggest that rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol had formed kill capture teams.
The comments by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin appeared to be an effort to walk back claims federal prosecutors in Arizona had made in a court filing late on Thursday, in which they alleged there was evidence that rioters intended to capture and assassinate elected officials.
Sherwin said that his office is leading the prosecution effort, but as local offices help to run down suspects in their districts, there may have been a disconnect on the evidence obtained so far in the cases.
Late on Thursday, federal prosecutors had made sweeping claims about the ongoing investigation in a filing as they asked a judge to detain Jacob Chansley, an Arizona man and QAnon conspiracy theorist photographed wearing horns as he stood at the desk of Vice President Mike Pence in the chamber of the U.S. Senate.
In the filing, they said Chansley left a note for Pence warning that its only a matter of time, justice is coming.

(1,851 posts)For the US attorneys now denying what we all know.
I was really pissed off and disgusted the headlines said US now says no evidence of planned executions. Gallows outside the Capitol is the compelling evidence. Zip ties point to hostage taking and restraining those about to be executed. Interviews conducted showed many who were hoping to kill pence, Pelosi, Democrats and rogue republicans, and others...but they have no evidence this was calculated or an integrated assault, at the present time.
Then I thought maybe they we're trying to give the domestic terrorists a false sense of confidence and security that they wouldn't be charged with such extreme crimes, due to lack of evidence... until the new administration takes charge.
4 days until Biden takes office!

It is hard to keep up. But originally the feds did say that there was evidence of "kill and capture" teams. The title of this thread has not been updated, but originally that was what they said.
