Just heard on MSNBC. Now, they didn't say who he was going to pardon, just that more pardons were coming.
We can pretty much count on him pardoning the terrorists/insurrectionists, and likely himself and family.
That's his 'fuck you' on the way out the door -- or one of the many of them.
Maybe he won't pardon any of the above-mentioned. But it seems likely he will -- HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONVICTED AND REMOVED THIS WEEK!
That Trump the Terrorist and the terrorists who helped him attack our capitol will get away with this SCOT-FREE, is solely on MITCH MCCONNELL.

(17,865 posts)He would still be in a lot of trouble, but the rabble gets a pass since most of the crimes (with the possible exception of state conspiracy charges) are pardonable because it happened in Washington, DC. A pardon that kids killing a cop ain't going to go over well with traditional Republicans.

(17,865 posts)the insurrection. It will be general preemptive pardons ala Ford to Nixon for all federal crimes up to the point the pardon is signed for his family and close advisors/conspirators. He probably will try to self pardon as well.
If he includes the rabble in the mix, then he risks upsetting the whole apple cart. This would be like a Carter Vietnam avoidance pardon, and the nation would be so disgusted that the Supreme Court be insane to uphold them.
Upholding these pardons means a President can hire Blackwater next time and kill whoever he wants. At least under US law, there would be no accountability.

Not to mention pardoning the terrorists....theres nothing in it for him

(26,158 posts)As per the Constitution. And, there is a legit Constitutional argument that can be interpreted that he cannot pardon co-conspirators of those impeachment charges.

(21,156 posts)That would cost him more than it could ever benefit him. He may try to do it for himself, his family, and allies. I am not even sure if Rudy falls into the "allies" camp anymore.

(9,213 posts)for that specific item. Not to mention that some of them haven't even been charged. Him pardoning them would count as part of the conspiracy so I doubt that would hold up in court, but will be fun to see this get shot down in the courts.
I think he is done pardoning and think he likes to take people down with the ship with him. He thinks they are all in it together.

(3,122 posts)Article ll of the Constitution prohibits presidential pardons ... in cases of impeachment.
Trump has already pardoned Flynn and Stone for their Mueller Report and Russian collusion convictions.... but I dont see how those pardons can apply to their actions in regard to the January 6 insurrection, since that is precisely what the Congress has charged in Impeachment 2.0. They would appear to be co- conspirators with Trump in his Senate case of impeachment.
Of course, investigations will need to link Stone, Flynn, And Bannon to the January 6 events, but this may be the pathway for us to finally bring these three fascists to justice.

Putin walks in, and remarks on how cold it is in the bar. Trump pulls out the United States Constitition and sets it afire for temporary warmth.

(4,999 posts)Who does he want to pardon?
The vindictive pardon:
--- anyone whose pardon will infuriate Trump's "enemies".
e.g. insurrectionists (albeit he may be conflicted if he really does understand this could put him in more legal jeapordy)
child molesters
crooks
The grift pardon:
--- anyone whose pardon he thinks will generate more loyalty to him, that Trump hasn't currently thrown under the bus.
e.g. probably most of his family is in this category, as well as Stephen Miller, Bannon, Stone (again).

(35,702 posts)insurrectionists and a self pardon is not going to work. So corrupt pardons would be added to the list of charges.
