https://www.everythinglubbock.com/news/national/nra-to-leave-new-york-reincorperate-as-texas-non-profit/
The NRA plan, which involves utilizing the protection of the bankruptcy court, has the Association dumping New York and organizing its legal and regulatory matters in an efficient forum. The move comes at a time when the NRA is in its strongest financial condition in years.
The NRA will continue with the forward advancement of the enterprise confronting anti-Second Amendment activities, promoting firearm safety and training, and advancing public programs across the United States. There will be no immediate changes to the NRAs operations or workforce.
The Association will seek court approval to reincorporate the Association in the State of Texas home to more than 400,000 NRA members and site of the 2021 NRA Annual Meeting in Houston.

By Rudy TakalaDec 3rd, 2020, 4:55 pm
President Donald Trumps eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is reportedly considering a bid to lead the National Rifle Association.
Business Insider issued the report on Thursday, citing seven Trump advisers and Republicans close to the White House. Those sources predominantly trashed the prospect. Their model is not to go build stuff and own it, said an unnamed source described as being close to the Trump family. The person added, Their model is to put their name on something someone else built and hold none of the liability ...

(36,146 posts)Obama and Clinton both represented symbolic threats to white male dominance. Running out and buying a bunch of firepower is a way for insecure white men, threatened by the idea of diversity and equality, to reassure themselves that they are still dominant and powerful. Guns are quite literally a pacifier for white male anxiety.
the NRA's predicament is growing more intense thanks to an investigation by New York Attorney General Tish James that could threaten the group's nonprofit status by showcasing how many of its leaders are on the take.
What was once the far right's equivalent to a powerhouse like the ACLU now seems closer to a Theranos-style fraud. That kind of blow to the NRA's reputation might be damaging in a way that a million liberal op-eds denouncing its noxious politics never could be.

(7,475 posts)I grew up in a family who were sportsmen. My Dad would go hunting for pheasant, quail, partridge. He had one shotgun and kept us away from it .
Yes, we used his birds as food but to this day, I have not come to grips with that.
I can still see him sitting outside pulling feathers etc from these birds.
Hunting for food is one thing, carrying a gun with macho, military attitude is something I could never accept. NRA is really not necessary. Hunters should hunt for food. Big guns would blow a quail to smithereens.
Tell me, why do the NRA members need the big guns and the attitude?
How far we have fallen. Makes me sick!

(37,454 posts)Courts should examine the social welfare tax exemption they claim to avoid taxes. They have a charter issued by NY State going back decades. The courts will make that decision, it will take possibly years before its settled.
I belong to a decades old organization that has charter and incorporation between NY & NJ that made for business meeting being held in each state x times a year. Physical assets in one state, its get confusing. Now with Zoom and other video conferencing it made some things easier. Board elections and annual open business meeting were always a pain.
