I have a comment on this. While this sounds bad, I think a lot of people who believed in Trump are pissed off at him, no longer trust him and will actually just give up and give up on politics. The media tends to want to look only at the bad stuff. It's not all bad, especially since many now want Trump's head according to the article.
As Trump backs down from his Stop the Steal hoax, the supporters he radicalized are vowing to carry on the fight without him.

For months, President Donald Trumps message to his supporters was clear: The election was being stolen from him, and they needed to fight to take it back.
So on Jan. 6, during a Trump-promoted rally to Stop the Steal, thousands laid siege to the U.S. Capitol in a stunning attempt to do just that. The fallout of their failed insurrection, which resulted in five deaths, was swift: Trump was deplatformed from nearly every major social network and, on Wednesday, impeached for a historic second time.
When he emerged on camera a short while later, tail tucked between his legs, to condemn the rioters whom he himself had incited, and to call for a peaceful transfer of power to President-elect Joe Biden, his base felt betrayed.
So he basically just sold out the patriots who got rounded up for him, one person wrote in a 15,000-member pro-Trump Telegram group. Just wow.
In online havens for MAGA extremists, including Gab, CloutHub, MeWe, Telegram and far-right message boards such as 8kun, the tone toward Trump is shifting. HuffPost reviewed thousands of messages across these platforms and found that a growing minority of the presidents once-devout backers are now denouncing him and rejecting his recent pleas for peace. Some have called for his arrest or execution, labeling him a traitor and a coward. Alarmingly, many of those who are irate about Bidens supposed electoral theft are still plotting to forcibly prevent him from taking office with or without Trumps help.
We dont follow you, another Telegram user wrote, addressing Trump, after the president put out his video urging calm and order. Be quiet and get out of our way.

These folks are followers who need a charismatic leader.
If this prevents their future engagement in politics, then good riddance, a fitting self-imposed penalty for the damage they've caused by supporting Trump.

(24,656 posts)I do think many will be discouraged and recede from social media to await the next Messiah/Leader. But more than a few want to keep the subversion and insurrection going. Sad to say, this will not be the last attack against this country.

(82,849 posts)Trump won't be a target for his bloodthirsty mob, he's got the finest protection in the world. Paying for his sins is going to be on someone else's (read: yours and my) tab. But at least we'll hear Donald kvetching about how unfair everything is for him as the mob rampages.

(20,746 posts)Of their donations and rally participation, all drugs eventually fail to deliver the desired relief, and new sources are sought. Djt as potus was a tremendous narcissistic payoff for extremists. He validated their insanity and depravity. His repudiation is taken personally by these borderline personalities. The bubble has burst, and their pain flares, and lower brain fight or flight reactions take over.
We've just got to be ready, and use law enforcement to catch, tag, and manage them as their emotional losses debilitated them.
I'm not surprised the djt payoff wore off, or that they're moving on. Question is, to what?
