Went out someplace through a back door?
And how come so many are flocking to Florida because anyone can get a vaccine there but nothing for the rest of us?

Also, when it's a member of the Trump clan involved you'd better bet some percentage of the vaccine stores fell off of the back of a truck into rich people's arms.
With the microsoft tracking systems in the vaccine they can track them easily!

(18,268 posts)When Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar announced this week that the federal government would begin releasing coronavirus vaccine doses that had been held in reserve for second shots, no such reserve existed, according to state and federal officials briefed on distribution plans. The Trump administration had already begun shipping out what was available, starting at the end of December, taking second doses for the two-dose regimen directly off the manufacturing line.
Now, health officials across the country who had anticipated their extremely limited vaccine supply as much as doubling beginning next week are confronting the reality that their allocations will remain largely flat, dashing hopes of dramatically expanding access for millions of elderly people and those with high-risk medical conditions. Health officials in some cities and states were informed in recent days about the reality of the situation, while others were still in the dark
Friday.
Because both of the vaccines authorized for emergency use in the United States are two-dose regimens, the Trump administrations initial policy was to hold back second doses to protect against manufacturing disruptions. But that approach shifted in recent weeks, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

(47,486 posts)Would love to see Azar charged. For something. How did we go from releasing everything to oops?

(18,268 posts)But it also meant there was no stockpile of second doses waiting to be shipped, as Trump administration officials suggested this week. Azar, at a briefing Tuesday, said, Because we now have a consistent pace of production, we can now ship all of the doses that had been held in physical reserve. He explained the decision as part of the next phase of the nations vaccination campaign.

In fact, that information had come from Azar, who said Tuesday the next phase of the countrys vaccination campaign involved releasing the entire supply we have for order by states, rather than holding second doses in physical reserve.

(24,300 posts)There will be a nationwide policy and distribution network under President Biden. Trump's people, as usual, offered no federal guidance or plan. Priority #1 at this point, I would say, is to make sure second shots are available for those who've already had the first one.
My daughter is Vaccine coordinator at our local hospital where she is an RN/Administrator. I was shocked to hear that only 60% had been vaccinated so far, even that had enough doses for everyone. She explained they could have done everyone on the first day they had them, but they are doing them in stages so that if a large number have symptomatic reactions, it won't take as many personnel out of the picture at once. So far, things are going well and as planned,
Elderly people in the general population like my wife and myself should be getting out first on in a few weeks. The population in our county is only 60,000, so I won't be in my car waiting in line for four hours in a baseball stadium parking lot to get it. I will be notified and given an appointment at our local clinic where my family doctor works. With proper planning, this can all be done in an organized manner, something the Trump administration knows nothing about.
