John Weaver, a veteran Republican operative who co-founded the Lincoln Project, declared in a statement to Axios on Friday that he sent inappropriate, sexually charged messages to multiple men.
To the men I made uncomfortable through my messages that I viewed as consensual mutual conversations at the time: I am truly sorry. They were inappropriate and it was because of my failings that this discomfort was brought on you, Weaver said.
The truth is that I'm gay, he added. And that I have a wife and two kids who I love. My inability to reconcile those two truths has led to this agonizing place.
The context: During the past week, several men have alleged on social media that Weaver sent them unsolicited and sexually suggestive messages, sometimes coupled with offers of employment or political advancement.

The number of gay men I know who have a "John Weaver DM'd me and made me uncomfortable" story is astounding. An overwhelming number of men have been made to feel this way.

(681 posts)2. Inappropriate explanation
The sexually inappropriate communications between John Weaver and the men whom he promised jobs or political advancement is maybe a crime that has nothing to do with his being gay. I hate it that he hides behind his being gay and being in a hetero marriage with kids as any kind of explanation for his harassment and bribes.
If he is a harasser and a briber, then he should own that. Nothing about his family or his preferences, identity, attractions, etc., are relevant here.

Thank you for explaining it so eloquently.

Free advice and worth every penny: Enjoy the output of the Lincoln Project, their tweets and videos and such. But I haven't and wouldn't give them a nickel, and I scrupulously maintain an emotional distance from the outfit.
